Joe,
Would you please look into the waste of time, resources & money spent on the Wicomico County Kindergarten Registration Fair.
It is held at the Wicomico County Civic center for an entire week.
Here is the link on the wcboe website.
http://www.wcboe.org/department/Technology/OfficeofEnrollment
I went last year & it took over 3 hours to register my child for Kindergarten. I waited in line 5 different times before we were done. --and I preprinted my own paperwork ahead of time!!!
Many parents were upset & had to take 1/2 day off of work to drive all the way to the Civic Center on their "scheduled day" & register their child. If they couldn't make it to the Fair, they had to drive to the BOE & set up an appointment with them.
There was a ton of staff present at the event all week & I'm sure they incurred rental fees as well. The children did not get to visit the school they would attend in the fall.
Parents were very upset last year, and the kids hated it. I see they are doing the same thing again this year. I do not understand why they are using the Civic Center for the entire week, when the district owns so many buildings. I wonder how many extra people had to be paid for the week to sub at the schools. I also wonder how many different times the child's paperwork was transferred before arriving at the child's actual school.
Thanks for looking into it.

I'm sure Joe would be happy to look into it. Did it ever occur to the plaintiff to look into it rather than to pass the buck along to someone else?
ReplyDeleteJoe...for your information, the schools and administrators hate it too! Waste of time and money.
ReplyDeleteYou can register your child anytime you want
ReplyDeleteto there is no deadline
This is really convenient for parents from Bivalve, Nanticoke, Mardela Springs, Pittsville and Willards. NOT. Principals have to be at the civic center on their assigned registration day. I think I'd rather have my child's principal at school. Who does this benefit?
ReplyDelete12:27 Wow. Really? Some people...
ReplyDeleteMaybe there should be a blog started and begin listing the ways the BOE wastes time and money. Let me begin. 1. overnight "conferences" in Ocen City when there is only 30 miles to travel back 2. Luxurious dinners to impress the state department. This is just just the beginning. More to come.
ReplyDeleteIf 1:32 is right that principals are out of their schools all day to be at the civic center I am up set. Let the kindergarten parents meet the principal at the school where the child will be attending. This makes no sense. People who might have gotten a ride to their nearby school now have to get to the civic center. Don't tell me we're paying for transp. across the county too.
ReplyDelete12:27, FYI, I DID attempt to look into it last year.
ReplyDeleteI was very vocal with Fredrickson at the event, who couldn't answer the simple question, "How much is this costing taxpayers?". He stammered,"Ah, Ah, Ah, I'm not sure, I'll have to look into it." I wrote letters to the school about the waste of money when they asked about how the district can save money.
I even went as far as calling the Civic Center last year to find out how much it would cost to rent the facility. They told me that the front lobby area was approx $1000/day. Tables were extra, copy machine extra.
I'm not sure if wcboe got a discount. Joe has many followers, and I'm not a blogger--that is why I asked him to look into it.
Principals, nurses, guidance counselors and an office person out from each school on the day of their school's registration. Is a fact!
ReplyDeleteboe employee,
ReplyDeleteI'll be looking into registering my child now. Too bad I'll have to drive all the way into the District Office to do so, instead of my local school. What a waste of my time & gasoline.
I'm more concerned about whole schools being without a nurse so this can take place. Do we ever admit that something is a bad, expensive idea and stop doing it???
ReplyDeleteJohnny boy stammers and stutters when backed in a corner. He did the same with me when he was questioned about an incident that happened with the special education department and the director of the infants and toddlers program. As a matter of fact, they ALL stammered and stuttered when questioned. It's the new language.
ReplyDeleteStammering and stuttering equals lying!
ReplyDeleteMy supervisor bought a piece of office equipment and said it didn't work. And instead of taking it back to the store and getting another one, it disappeared. Waste of money and possible theft?
ReplyDelete444 you have to report it to bruce ford. know the approx date, equipment, store and approx price. he will take care of it.
ReplyDelete3. Sending several principals to a conference. And they brought back what? 4. Creating positions for family members. 5. Instead of terminating employees who do not do their job, they are placed in supervisory positions or at central and still don't do their job. Waste of money.
ReplyDeleteI don't know all the figures but what is the estimated cost the county spends per student per year? How does that compare with what you pay for a private school. The classes are smaller in private schools and the children get a better education and the teachers make less money. Seems like a lot of waste going on in the county.
ReplyDelete$30 million in federal state and local money is spent on special ed and at risk students. That doesn 't count local money for umpteen people and programs for those who won't behave. Probably private school doesn't have many of these expenditures.
ReplyDeleteFolks, parent comments are of use to the central office when they tell you what to say like support Bennett Middle or support a bigger budget. Don't expect much if your comments are criticizing a waste of money or a breach of ethics.
ReplyDelete6. Purchasing panera breakfast for monthly meetings. 7. Promoting one becauae there is no other place for her. 8. Spending many dollars on counsel due to many lawsuits being filed. 9. China vacation for johnny boy. 10. Florida trip for johnny, Michelle and Dave.
ReplyDeleteIt's been reported. Nothing was done. There has been so much stuff reported. They choose to believe what they want. Innocent people have been hurt and the pompous arrogant liars remain.
ReplyDeleteAmend 3:59. I am in the midst of an ethics issue with a few supervisors at the board. They don't want to hear it.
ReplyDeleteReport it to the County Council. I doubt they want money wasted on stolen goods.
ReplyDelete11. Full time PIO. If there wasn't so much deception, carefully worded press releases wouldn't be so frequent. Even at that it shouldn't be a full time job.
ReplyDeleteThe PIO was recently moved into Dr. Fredericksen office area. I wonder why.
ReplyDelete4:57/ this particular supervisor could lie to a lie detector. The more interesting piece to this, her bosses know she's a liar.
ReplyDelete12. Last year many staff members were given Ipads. They already had laptops and mini laptops. Let me guess, grant money?
ReplyDelete13. Grant money has been used to purchase items that were not related to focus of grant. Yeap, been reported. Nothing happened.
ReplyDelete14. Is it okay for leftover trinkets, from events, to be taken home to an employees child?
ReplyDelete15. I have a good one. Purchasing furniture on company time and taking it home on company time but had the backbone to take a co worker off their job post to help unload it
ReplyDelete16. What about people (supervisors) who exaggerate their mileage?
ReplyDeleteI have posted here before but there is a waste of money program director with the infants and toddlers program. I am a furious parent who has been treated with so much disrespect, I will not stop until wrongs are corrected. This county could save alot of money if they sent her to alternative school with Dr. Jones as head custodian.
