BALTIMORE -- As the April 17 tax deadline approaches, the Internal Revenue Service is offering relief for millions of unemployed Americans.
New penalty relief provisions allow a six-month grace period on failure-to-pay penalties.
Taxpayers who qualify can waive their payments until Oct. 15 of this year.
Those who have been unemployed for at least 30 consecutive days and self-employed individuals with at least a 25 percent drop in income qualify for the six-month extension.
In addition, the IRS is making payment installment options available to more people.
