Sidewalk Messages Stir Controversy At Towson University

Lingering flames of racial tension among Towson University students have been fanned to high levels after "White Pride" was scribbled on sidewalks all over campus.

At Towson University, students use chalk to write messages or promote events on campus sidewalks, but a recent chalking by one group is raising eyebrows because it has divided students. On Thursday, students gathered for a forum on campus to discuss their thoughts and concerns about the messages.

"I came from one of the roughest neighborhoods in Baltimore, and to come all the way to Towson University and feel like this is the most insecure, unstable environment because I see things like white [pride]," said Ignacio Evans.

  1. What's the problem. Only African Americans are allowed to have pride in their race? Can't have it both ways folks. I wonder how you'd feel if we had a WHITE HISTORY MONTH.

  2. White Christians are the MOST discriminated against in this country. It is much harder for whites and Asians to get into college because the SAT and ACT tests are scored differently according to race. Time to stop being bullied.

  3. Ignacio Evans, quoted in the article, came from (by his own admission) a neighborhood where your own friends and neighbors would (and do) KILL each other over $10 worth of pot, or KILL 7-11 clerks for cigarettes and $25. But he is afraid of the "most insecure and unstable (!?) environments"....I might have missed it, but how many Towson kids (black, white, or spanish) have been killed at Towson in the last TWENTY YEARS?? It must be HELL to live in such fear. I'll bet Ignacio doesn't even walk the campus after dark, unless it's with his boyfriend.

  4. 9:34 Might I add a white entertainment channel, a white miss America, and Heaven forbid a white basketball team. Soon we will have to give up a White Christmas, a Snow White, and vanilla ice cream.
