Next Demolition Scheduled For Thursday, March 22
The Department of Neighborhood Services & Code Compliance to raze 1018 Spring Avenue.
Since June of 2008 Neighborhood Services & Code Compliance (NSCC) has identified 33 (thirty-three) code violations (noxious growth, rubbish, boarding up of unsecure windows and doors, exterior violations and neighborhood complaints) at the subject property. There was call for service to the Salisbury Police Department during this time for vandalism of a vacant structure. The property was eventually condemned in March 2011. Considering the property owner failed to bring the property into compliance it was eventually ordered demolished also in March of 2011.
During the enforcement period the City spent $3,221.21 in abating violations. As a result of the neglect and condition of this property, this structure has begun its own demolition by neglect of the owner. The demolition that will take place will improve the safety and health of those surrounding properties.
In addition, a total of $3,145.28.00 has been issued in municipal infractions, resulting in twelve (12) district court hearings. Also, $1,746.89 is owed for water, sewer, trash removal and bay restoration fees. To date, these fees have not been recovered by the City of Salisbury.
This demolition is being funded through the City of Salisbury's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program awarded to Salisbury by the federal government. In 2011 the City set aside a portion ($55, 041) of its annual CDBG funding award to be used to demolish blighted properties in our neighborhoods that pose a public health and/or safety risk. The City is funding demolitions of four blighted properties, with
a fifth property a possibility with remaining funds.
The demolition is scheduled to begin Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 8:00 am.
A person would be a fool to trust those city guys.They are not upright honest people.I would never want to own a house in the city and be subject to them.Some rich guy will ends up with these lots and built rentals.Because of the lead paint laws it is cheaper to buy a lot and build a new small house. Gotta find a way to empty the lot...This is it
ReplyDeleteThey will demolish the houses and attach the cost to the property taxes.. investers who are the interested parties will pick up the lots at the tax sale.This is much cheaper than offering to buy the houses from the property owner who who is wanting to sell. If you are targeted by the city boys, it is imposible to keep a property in the city. Truth and honesty will not prevail in the end.Just like in the big cities.
ReplyDeleteIf they want your property they can just take it..The only recourse is an appeals hearing that is done under their office. You will lose.It is run by them.. It won't ever really see a actual court of law. If appealed to Circuit Court you won't even get to speak.It is a rubber stamp of the hearing.It is not a free country anymore Betcha all people didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteIf you lived in these neighborhoods, with the violent crime and vandalism that goes on you would not be so concerned with how things have come this far on these properties and the previous owners brought this on themselves, you would be cheering like all of us in this area--that it is one less drug house and refuge for dealers and gangs to hang around. Go back and read the 33 code violations again and note neighborhood complaints.
ReplyDeletehow do you end up owing water, sewer, and trash fees on an unoccupied house? I would think there is no usage if nobody lives there.
ReplyDeleteThey manipulate the paperwork. When a property is targeted. It starts a paper trail by the city to support their claims.. Bags of trash are spread in the yard.Cans and bottles appear.Things suddenly start happening.Leins appear on the property.You can't help yourself. They have too much power. Honest or not.
