Fight Claims, Pot Put Fla. Teen's Side on Defense

The family and supporters of slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin found themselves on the defensive Monday following revelations he had been suspended for marijuana before he was shot to death by a neighborhood watch volunteer. Police also confirmed a report that the watchman claimed Martin was the aggressor, punching him in the nose and smacking his head on a sidewalk.

Martin, 17, was suspended by Miami-Dade County schools because traces of marijuana were found in a plastic baggie in his book bag, family spokesman Ryan Julison said. Martin was serving the suspension when he was shot Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman, who was patrolling the neighborhood that Martin was visiting with his father.

Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, and family attorneys blamed police for leaking the information about the marijuana and Zimmerman's claim about the attack to the news media in an effort to demonize the teenager.

"They killed my son and now they're trying to kill his reputation," Fulton told reporters.

  1. Trying to kill his reputation?
Always 2 sides of the story!
I saw Sharpton in the background when she made this statement. He didn't have much to say after they found out about the fight or dope.
If some fights with me and breaks my nose , if I have a gun , sad on his butt.

  2. Not saying that this is right, Trayvon did not deserve to be shot. But honestly when you watch the media and news outlets all you ever see is baby pictures of Trayvon, he was 17 and I am sure a lot bigger than those baby pictures shown. If he was fighting as the aggresor it is much more understandable as to why the self defense law would be used. But still he chased the kid down the street, very hard to call self defense with that on tape.

  5. If it was a white boy that was shot would there be rallies all over the country? No.
If Zimmerman was walking back to his vehicle to meet police how was he still pursuing Martin? (It can clearly be heard on the 911 call Zimmerman says "Oh I shouldn't have said that (his house address) because I don't know where he (Martin) is", which clearly shows he had already lost sight of Martin.

The report has finally shed light that Martin was suspended for marijuana it doesn't "kill his reputation" it states facts. Zimmerman was attacked. Fact. He was treated the day after the incident. Fact.

So many people have jumped on the emotional spew bandwagon that they are not seeing the facts surrounding the incident.

Obama, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton...all are jumping on that same bandwagon and all have done so without considering all the facts...split second decisions do not make good decisions!

  7. I am @ 8:59

I would not shoot him if he was slamming my head against the ground unless I knew he was trying to kill me. The kid is 17. Do not get me wrong I think there is more behind the story but for him to shoot a unarmed 17 year sold is just plain wrong. It is not like he is a defensless guy he is bigger and older then Trayvon he didn't need to shoot him. There is the 911 tape of the call placed by the man who shot Trayvon and you can clearly hear Trayvon saying "help, help" and the 911 dispatcher askes the guy to stop chasing him which he does not. But like someone else said earlier there are two sides to every sotry, and then there is the truth.

  8. @ 9:33

Does it matter if he lost him or not? Obviously if you feel your life is threatened then why would you continue to persue the person? That is where the self defense law to me gets thrown out of the window. No person in their right mind would chase someone if they felt this person was going to do harm to them.

  9. Oh and FACT Trayvon is dead and he had no weapon. FACT he was 17. FACT Zimmerman is not a police officer or part of any neighborhood watch. FACT he profiled the kid and got what was coming to him a behind whooping. FACT the 17 year old was unarmed. FACT he was heard on 911 tapes screaming for help. FACT Zimmerman persued the kid after the initial altercation. FACT he shot the kid dead.

  10. zimmerman is hispanic not white. according to the tape of his conversation with his girlfriend which just surfaced he was returning to his vehicle as he was directed to do when he was attacked by trayvon. so maybe finding out the facts would be a real nice thing

  11. The media has butchered the truth of this matter so bad they should be jailed. The fact of the matter is that we have a young man shot to death by someone who has volunteered his time to protect his neighborhood. The truth of the matter is that we have people trying to convict the shooter without detailed, truthful knowlege of what happened. The shame of the matter is that people are trying to make this a racial matter instead of realizing that these are 2 humans instead of labeling them hispanis and black.

  13. Fact. Zimmerman was returning to his car as instructed by the 9:11 person. He was attacked from the rear. This will all come out in the end as long as the MSM tells the true facts. It will be difficult for them to do as they are on Obama's payroll.

  14. anon. 10:26 You are saying fact when it isn't so. They said that Trayvon was 6' 3" that would make him the bigger of the two. Also if trayvon was on top of you bashing your head into the sidewalk what would you do. Also this tall guy attacking you was not wear a sign saying I am only 17 and I am unarmed.
