So far this year, nearly 600 robberies have been reported across the city--that's a 30 percent increase from 2011. Upper Northwest has seen the biggest jump, with a 250 percent increase over the same time last year. In nearly half of the robberies, the attackers threatened the victims with a gun.
Tenleytown has been hit the hardest and residents are talking about how the crime has impacted the community. Longtime residents say they haven't seen this since the 1980s.
My neighbor is a minister, in his late 60s. Since I moved there, they've been robbed on 4 seperate occassion that I know of. Last year his wife was carjacked IN her driveway. My other next door neighbors are both police officers. Their cruiser was burglarized, and there house has been robbed twice since I moved there. They've gone as far to install CCTV(with nightvision) monitors around the perimeter of their home. Can't wait til I move, and the funny part is, it's considered a "good" neighborhood!
