Report: Millions Of Jobless File For Disability When Unemployment Benefits Run Out

Being unemployed for too long reportedly is driving people mad and costing taxpayers billions of dollars in mental illness and other disability claims.

The New York Post reported Sunday that as unemployment checks run out, many jobless are trying to gain government benefits by declaring themselves unhealthy.

More than 10.5 million people -- about 5.3 percent of the population aged 25 and 64 -- received disability checks in January from the federal government, the Post wrote, a 18 percent jump from before the recession.

  1. Taxpayers as always get screwed. Permanent government handouts to guarantee the Porgressive liberals get elected. Not too mention , yet another boon to lawyers who represent the disability claims.

  4. These people have already for these benefits when they were working. Every week a portion of their paycheck when to this agency. How you think this is a handout is beyond me.

Besides think about the folks who probly were already working when they shouldn't be.folks have to survive. They better get their money from the social security administration now before its all gone.

Ain't that the truth. People are more concerned with others drawing out WHAT THEY PAID IN, then the politicians and whoever else that treat the fund like their very own ATM machine.

Everyone who has ever had a job has paid into this fund. And I intend to draw on it, IF it is still there when I qualify.

Let's be a little more concerned about millionaires collecting welfare and food stamps, shall we?

I couldn't believe it either but it's true.
