Petition On Same Sex Marriage

“Taking it to the People”

by Delegate Michael A. McDermott

The people of Maryland will soon be given the opportunity to voice their opinion on the O’Malley-Brown Same Sex Marriage Bill (HB-438). This bill, which was defeated in the Judiciary Committee (yet forced to the floor by a combined committee vote with Health-Government Operations) and then passed with the bare minimum “71” needed in the House of Delegates is currently in the process of being petitioned to referendum.

The Petition drive is being headed up by Delegate Neil Parrott (R-Washington Co.) who also successfully launched the petition drive to force In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens to referendum following last years session. I spoke with Delegate Parrott on Friday and he advised me that the petition language has been submitted to the Maryland State Board of Elections for their review. Once the language of the petition has been approved, it will be put before the public for their active participation.

At this time, the ability to utilize the On-Line Petition format, which was so successful during last years petition drive, will be the primary mechanism for voters to utilize. Voters can go to the site mdpetitions.com where they can register to participate once the petitions are available. Those willing to help collect signatures can also sign up at this time.

Marylanders who appreciate the liberty to petition a law to referendum should keep a watchful eye on HB-127 which seeks to force each signature of a petition to be notarized. It is true hypocrisy when these same liberals fight to keep us from requesting a photo ID at a polling place yet want to demand a notarized signature on a simple petition.

The bottom line...liberals have always feared the people. The last thing they want is for the people of Maryland to stand up with a successful petition drive and reject their attempt to redefine marriage. Pay particular attention to those who seek to limit your ability to redress your government. Your liberty and that of your children depends upon it.

Marylanders, take back your state!

  1. It won't matter what the people think. The kings and queens (no pun intended) will do what they want anyway.

  2. Stop assuming only liberals and homosexuals support this. Some of us God-fearing, Obama-loathing, gun-carrying Republicans support this too. You people need to really get a grip and focus on what is really important in this country now, because you look like fools.

  4. I cant wait for Gay History Month, and teaching proper reasons for sex with Gay people in Health, and wait no employees need gay bathrooms so they wont feel out of sorts, and gay awareness and how not to upset gay people in the work place classes.

If you are Gay al the power to you, but dont force you screwed up morals on me or my kids. No you should not be able to adopt, yes you should be charged in the MARYLAND criminal law section there is a section called SODOMY.... Need to have that one taken off the books....

Wow, we made laws against this then allow this? Well why not, politicians have been doing Sodomy to us for years.

  5. Things like gay marriage, the rampant divorce rate, and political correctness are what is dragging this once fine country down from its once proud place as a world superpower. Look back at history and see once great civilizations such as the Greeks and Romans brought down by moral corruptness. The U.S.A. is now experiencing the very same thing first hand. If it is a civil right issue, then soon others will argue it is their civil right to marry their pet monkey, dog, or cat. Watch and see.

    1. It's not hate.besides the fact it's wrong and disgusting. Against human nature. There is high divorce rates in these marriages. Mainly due to promiscuity. Witch leads to disease. What happens when the state has to pick up the bill for health care on these people.disease is extremely high among this culture.allow them to open the doors here and watch what happens

  8. thank you mike for this info. please keep us informed as to what we can do to beat this law made by a perverted small number of people.

  9. Just because you think homosexuality is wrong and that the government should not encourage or support it, then you are hateful. That is just plain wrong and it is the strategy that forces this stuff down the throats of people who do support it. If you don't support Obama you're a racist, if you don't support gay marriage then you are hateful. Lets shame people into supporting our beliefs and ideals. I'm tired of being labeled something terrible because I don't support what think I should.

  10. O'Malley threw his Catholicism aside in order to gain the backing of the Dem Party for a possible national run. You'll see Babs retire and O'Malley run for her Senate seat soon enough.

I don't know about marrying their pets, but I bet they will try to make sex with animals legal. They will also make it legal to have sex with little boys. The liberals and 7:47 are some sick bastards!

  12. Even the people of California, the most liberal of all states voted to protect marriage between a man and a woman. I think the people of MD will do the same.

  14. Where's the petition to just get the government plain out of marriage? Marriage is an institution created by God, it should have never been a government function. I am married, and I would just have gladly got my "civil union" certificate from the courthouse, while separately going and getting married in a church. No government entity should have a say in who I married, that is to be done before God. Homosexuals should just as well get those "civil union" certificates if they want those benefits. But if ANYONE wants to get married, that should be left to religious beliefs and whatever church you believe in, not some politician. I'm not just against homosexual marriage, I'm against ANY marriage regulated by the government. Get the government out of my religion.

  15. Time for gays to be tolerant of those who oppose their lifestyle as
immoral and completely unnatural with no place in human evolution.
    Opposition is not HATE.
    Respect our views.

  22. 7:47: The Dems shove same-sex marriage down our throat and you're telling us there are more important things people commenting should worry about? Seems your ire should be directed at our boy governor and his cronies for tying up our legislature with this type of legislation when there is more important and pressing issues needing attention.

  23. 10:15, are you forgetting that we've already picked up the tab for the gay community?
    Remember AIDS?

  24. I don't care who marries who or what anyone else does in their bedroom. I will sign the petition so that the people of Maryland can decide what is good for our state.I'm really tired of politicians ramming their agenda down our throats

  25. O'malley's screwed up his chance of ever being elected to president. He's too much of a divider. He's divided the people between this and the Dream Act. He's really dumb and so are his advisors.

Now take Obama. He didn't do a thing as senator and that was by design all dreamed up by brilliant advisors. He created no controversies as o'malley tends to do.
Obama's advisors and handlers kept him at a low profile and not showing off and grandstanding like o'malley and that's why Obama got elected.
