Joe,
I wanted to comment on the idiotic vote to reject deputy chief rick hoppes as the next chief of the salisbury fire dept. I cannot comprehend how council persons campbell, spies and cohen can deny someone of rick's caliber and integrity, when he has now been acting chief twice now and has obviously done a better job of running the fire department than these three have done in doing the city's business; oh, excuse me their own little town that they control like a dictatorship, denying anyone who doesn't agree with their agendas. rick hoppes has given over 25 years in the fire department, doing his utmost best to protect the citizens of salisbury, and in turn these three basically have spit in his face, saying that he isn't qualified to run the department because he doesn't have a bs degree! do these people have advanced degrees in business that actually qualify them to run the city, and if they don't then they should be kicked out of office as soon as possible so that someone who is able can take over and run this city as it should be run, with the concerns of the citizens of this city put first. it is the same situation here, if they think that rick cannot run this department because he doesn't have said degree. the mayor put rick up to be the next chief because he obviously felt that he was the best candidate for the position. i do not understand why the three cohorts think that a person from outside the area would be better suited for this job, than someone who has lived in this city his entire life, and knows the people who works for him a lot better than some person who probably could come into this town and disrupt an already well run department, in my opinion. these three make up their own rules as they go along; i know of noone that can get away with not following the city charter, but they run amendments through that help them, not the citizens of this city that i love and have lived in my entire life.
With all due respect, the three you mention did and are playing by the rules/law.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I understand the candidate did not have the educational qualifications, fulfilled… not just yet.
And the mayor was just using the candidate as a pawn, after losing face over the city solicitor smack down.
Joe seriously. Let this die, its only creating more controversy between Hoppes, the mayor, the council, the firefighters and the city residents. We need to put this to rest and move forward.
ReplyDeleteOh it's by far over let me tell ya. City council you may want to have the next council meeting at the civic center to hold all of us. You haven't heard the last of this.

Oh OK! Make sure you sure you are a tax paying city resident who votes and don't forget to sign the roster with your address. I am confident Ms. Campbell and Mr. Cohen won't be intimidated by your idle threats. They were overwhelmingly elected to the city council by voters who trust them to make these kind of decisions for them. I think you are starting to sound like the guy from the other blog and his few followers.
*Ms. Cohen. Sorry Terry!
ReplyDeletedont forget, mr hoppes is the guy that got us our wonderful fire boat. that certainly qualifies him to be chief. yeah right. thanks sjd
ReplyDeleteObama was elected by voters who trusted him to make good decisions too. How's that working?
ReplyDeleteIf Ireton really was.yes Hopped, why didn't he advance his name in the last round? Louise, Gary and Shanie would have confirmed him. Ireton doesn't want him and is using this as a political set up. You are falling for it hook, line and sinker.
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:18 p.m. That's bull. I live in Wicomico County and the fine FireFighters of the SFD respond to my neighborhood as well. Believe me this has gone well beyond the boundaries of the City of Salisbury. This has reached County Volunteer Fire Company's as well.
ReplyDeleteNobody knows why the council turned Hoppes down. If the people who say they care about him really did, they'd let this go.
ReplyDeleteJust remember: Jim Ireton had TWO opportunities to put Hoppes forward to a council with a majority that would have rubber stamped him in a heartbeat.
IRETON DID NOT ADVANCE HOPPES TWICE.
I am neither for or against Hoppes but he is getting USED by Ireton and he is not the first!
Rick Hoppes is not the right choice and never have been. He is not qualified for the position and his application should have been tossed in the beginning for not meeting the criteria. Ireton is just playing silly games with the city council so he can send out a silly press release attacking the city council saying it is taking them to long to chose a permanent department head.
ReplyDeleteThe best thing Ireton can do is submit another nomination and move forward. Ireton is the one that is holding up progress in the city. The ball is in your court now Jim Ireton, one time Mayor!
