ACLU suing Baltimore Police Department over right to record officers
It's an argument that will be heard in Federal Court Monday.
The ACLU is suing the Baltimore City Police Department on behalf of Christopher Sharp.
Sharp was at the Preakness in May of 2010 when he used his cell phone to record police arresting a friend.
The ACLU says police stopped sharp and demanded he turn over his cell phone. When he refused, officers took his phone, deleted the video and other videos he had on his phone including several of his young son.
The Baltimore police commissioner will ask the judge to dismiss the case or a judgment in their favor.

well if b-more wins the suit then all the other judges whom were in favor of the civilian tapping will be brought back into court...
ReplyDeleteHow can a citizen, who is attending the Preakness, be accused of loitering? I suspect the officers had something to hide. That should be illegal search and seizure. More officers ought to be monitored. Some of Maryland's "finest" think they are above the law.
ReplyDeleteCops don't want anyone to question them, they are crooks with badges!
ReplyDeleteYou SUSPECT the officers had something to hide?
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious.
1:11PM,
ReplyDeleteWhy is 'SUSPECT' hilarious?
just replace suspect with guarantee...
ReplyDeleteEither is hilarious.
This is the police state of Maryland YOU have no right to do any thing the police deem illegal. If it's not illegal they will find a way to make it illegal!
ReplyDeleteShoot the cops and say they were dragging you with their car.
ReplyDeleteIt should be noted (and the article seems to have conveniently issed this) the DOJ has asked the judge to find in favor of the plaintiff stating that we cannot allow this type of affront on the rights of citizens to continue.
ReplyDeleteI say tape them whenever you want. They are to protect and serve. They are all the finest people we have in the entire world. They have nothing to hide. Bull! Like someone else said, they are crooks with a badge. Hope the ALCU wins this one. Hope the officers get fired too.
ReplyDeletethis will never stand up in court. the cops better get used to being videoed. If they were doing their jobs the correct way it wouldn't be an issue!
