The world would be better off with a few more married gay couples and a few less bigots like yourself Joe. I'll take a rainbow over your dark cloud of hatred any day.

anonymous 8:28, OH, so now its "hatred" eh? Considering your an anonymous coward I'll have you know I have several gay friends. I don't "hate" gay people, I disagree with their lifestyle. I disagree with Mike Lewis, I don't "hate" him. Heck, I disagree with Barrie Tilghman but I don't "hate" Barrie Tilghman. So you wet pants liberals want to now throw out the word "hate" because people like me DISAGREE with you? You need to GROW UP and face REALITY. The MAJORITY of Americans do NOT support gay marriage, period. You load up our public offices with gays, rally together to gain support WITHIN and then scream discrimination when you don't get your way. If ANYONE hates ANYBODY it's YOU.

  2. You don't hate. You just think that someone else's rights should be thrown out the window just because they make you uncomfortable.

  3. So NOW you want to call it RIGHTS? Since when?????

  4. What I don't understand about the whole debate can be summed up with one question. How does gay marriage effect YOU?

I don't understand the lifestyle, because I'm not gay. But I do understand that allowing gays the same rights as heteros in no way changes your marriage with your wife. Nobody is asking you to join the gay pride parade. Nobody is asking you to coddle another guy's man parts. It doesn't change anything in your life, so why is it any of your business?

im straight. gays can marry whomever they like JUST LIKE ME. NEITHER OF US can marry someone of the same sex. therefore you are not being DENIED any rights that i have.

  6. DJ, It's against the law, period. Laws were made for a reason, yet liberals believe laws were made to be broken.

Just keep changing the laws that founded this Country and see where it gets you.

The liberals run around, global warming this, welfare that. Its all about entitlements and false hope on the backs of those people NOT breaking the laws. On the backs of hard working people who don't have the time to cry like babies because they don't like certain laws.

The liberals HAVE the time because the MAJORITY are either sucking off the taxpayers OR they are politicians.

I'm a responsible republican who believes in what our founding fathers started. If YOU don't like it, there's plenty of other countries you can go and live that will welcome gay marriage and welfare.

  9. Joe,
I've never posted to your blog before, but feel compelled after reading this topic. When I married my husband, Frank, everyone said an inter-racial marrige would not work. Well here we are 27 years later and still in love with each other. Our marrige produced 3 children and our son is gay. Just as Tom and I fought for acceptance, I'm fighting for gay rights for our son. Our marrige is accepted today as "normal" and in a few years gays will also be as normal as apple pie. So please support gay rights as we support your rights.

  10. if the only arguement is "i should be able to marry who i love!" then, like joe said, you can marry anything or anyone...including animals, children, rocks, buildings, etc...
    legally speaking of course.

  11. anonymous 9:10, There's no laws stopping a black person from marrying a white person. He is a man and you are a woman.

While it may become as normal as apple pie, as you suggest, well, I'm glad I will no longer on this earth when what you predict becomes normal.

I do not believe in it but I do NOT hate gay people. Do we ALL understand that now?

  12. 9:10, you are wasting your breath. Fear and prejudice abound here and any "disagreement" is cloaked with the "wet pants liberal" tag. I am not a democrat but I am more liberal than many republicans. However I can assure you, Joe, that I am not wetting my pants over this. I have never understood that reference during all the time I have spent reading this blog. Personally, I would rather allow people to marry - any couple- than have them just shacking up.

  13. A small minority (well under 10%) trying to force acceptance of their perverse lifestyle by the majority.

Like a few atheists trying to erase the first amendment because they don't want to hear any reference to the God that most Americans believe in.

And, of course, the whole argument is framed in references to 'tolerance'.

It reminds me of the spoiled brat who throws a tantrum when he doesn't get his way.

Grow up. Read the documents upon which this country was founded. Learn to abide by them.

  15. They want others to support their 'rights' because they support 'straight' rights?

The more 'you people' force the issue the more resistance you will receive.

We think it's wrong and nothing you can say is going to change that.

Why can't you just keep that crap to yourselves and leave others alone?

  16. I hate militant gays who consider themself and their mammal of the day a couple with unique rights. Please stay away from my dog, thank you.

  17. At the end of the day, I myself do not agree with gay marriage. But what I do believe is everyone should have the ability to marry whomever they like while they are on this Earth. Life is too short to argue about this and that, this is exactly the reason it is always front page news our government loves it when we are turned against each other it only benefits them. I do not support, gay marriage but if your belief is rooted in religion and what this country was founded on then may I ask how allowing men to marry men will affect YOUR life? In the end if you do believe they will have to answer to a higher being then that will become their problem correct? Why not allow gay people to marry, straight people don't seem to be very good at marriage either but we are allowed?

  19. they can do what they want to do. i will still find it disgusting as hell. i have NO problems with that.
but gays are asking to be apart of our society with our rules. now that tidbit isnt saying i dont welcome them into society (which i wouldnt like anyway because its still a sexual pervsion). what im saying, simply put, gays want to "have what i have". yet they want to change the rules of the game to suit their desires. once you change the rules, the game is different.

  21. 50% divorce rate says that straight people really do not have the room to tell someone who they can and can not marry. I am no relationship conselor but I do not see how this will affect straight people in a negative way. If you believe the institution of marriage is for a man and a woman then by all means stick to it, but to just say that marriage can ONLY be between a man and a woman when they have been doing it for hundreds of years and still arent very good at it makes no sense. Marriage is what you make of it, not what the "institution" recognizes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Let's just stop this bullshit about the 50% divorce rate crap.

The gays throw out that number like its rainbow candy because they have NO real divorce rate, YET!

So, do tell me, do ALL gay people stick together for life? NO, so stop the BS!

Man, some of you will fall for the dumbest things. Fight back and call these people out for their liberal bullshit.

  23. Well Joe I finally agree with you. I am sick and tired of Gays and Afro Americans crying the blues. Well before I go any further lets make one thing clear. Those of you comparing Blacks and Whites getting married to this Gay rights bill are just plain fking crazy. No one cares about a man and women getting married anymore of any race. Those days are long gone but to say we will all accept it later. You my friend are in denial because as you stated you child is gay.

I have friends that I hold near to my heart that have "Chosen" the gay life style. They know I do not and will not support this ever. Whats next I want to marry a five year old. Why cant I I know society does not like adults having sex with kids. Well in time we will get used to it. BULLSHIT. In some countries you would be put to death for same sex anything. That also goes for pedophiles. It is without a doubt a deviant behavior that a bunch of liberal live and let live til it affects me cry babies have endorsed.

No the problem is we have all become affraid of offending someone or hurting feelings. This country is in the crapper people. The moral fabric is tattered. We as a people have lost the will to be the greatest country on earth. We have broken all the rules. We are affraid to admitt that just maybe we went too far with some freedoms.

When I see eighteen year old women with seven children and no father to care for them. He is in jail or just does not care. A young women who chooses not to take a small pill to prevent this because she knows I work an eighty hour work week so she can go to the "Club" smoke some weed and kick out a couple more kids with felons.

I am not in anyway targeting the African Americanus. Just the ones with over six kids with no job or a babies daddy. See I am tolerant. I have become weak I should not tolerate anyone living off of my hard earned dollars. I have been effected by the spin.

This country is on the verge of financial ruin the politicians want you deabting gay marriege. They do not want your eyes on them. They have failed America. A great country will fall without a single shot ever being fired on American soil. Greed, Glutony, Deviance, Fear, and Extreme Tolerance will bring us to our knees.

People dont have food to eat and the rainbow coalition spent twenty million dollars so that gays can call eachother husband and wife.

REALLY I MEAN REALLY. I have had enough of this liberal rhetoric crammed down my throat.

God Bless America. We sure as hell need it.

Its time for a social awakening.

Oh calm the hell down. He's not using any 'race card'. He is making a valid point. Which involves black people.

You sir, are the one trying to use the 'race card'.

But we are not falling for it.

  25. Look, the queers can eneter into some sort of a life long contractual agreement where they share assets share the rent, have equal risk with credit etc. But THEY CANNOT MARRY!

  26. I don't agree with the gay lifestyle one bit, BUT their actions have absolutely ZERO affect on my life. Get over it Joe. You guys are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites who scream about small government, freedom, and democracy until someone doesn't conform to what you believe is normal or they "come for your medicare".

  27. How can anyone bring up the race card. Afro Americans have been give every opportunity in this country to succeed. I am sick of hearing how blacks and for that matter gays don't have rights. I am totally against gays being married. I believe in the Bible and as a Christian it is wrong. A marriage is between a man and a woman. If you want some ceremony name it Sodomy because thats what it is. Sodem and Gammorah were destroyed because of their homosexual lifestyle. Hell move to another country that allows this and leave the US if you care. Many including Billy Graham warned us about this lifestyle and how it will destroy the foundation of families.

  29. I do not 'hate' gay people. It is their lifestyle that I 'hate'; this lifestyle is not normal. God intended marriage between one man and one woman; the reason behind marriage is procreation. Gay couples can not procreate without surrogates, adoption, etc., therefore this is not a normal union. Yes, there are normal married couples that cannot have children due to infertility, again this is not a situation for a gay couple. Homosexuality is not a disease, it is a choice, just as smoking, drinking, drug usage. Someone chooses that lifestyle does not make it right. I believe God loves the gay person, He does not condone their lifestyle. If they repent of their sin of homosexuality He will lovingly open His arms and cover them in love.

  31. Ok I really didn't want to comment on this post, but as I read more and more comments I have to. First off, Joe, this country was founded upon freedom of religion. That is truly it. Settlers left England to escape the religious restrictions that they imposed. This opinion of yours and other conservatives is rooted in religion, but freedom of religion would dictate that neither you nor the government can use religion to affect someone elses life.

Second, conservatives have got to pick a position. Either you are conservative in all aspects of government or you're not. If you want to be a true conservative, stay out of other peoples business....all of it. Believe me, no gay man or woman is going to be inviting you to their wedding (which will eventually happen) and if you didn't keep imposing on other people's lifestyles you would be much less bothered by it.

Finally, you are fighting a losing war. You claim that the founding fathers built this country and we have to abide by their rules. True, but I truly don't believe that one of their main issues was preventing gay marriage, mainly because it wasn't relevant. Times evolve and society adapts. Citizens against interracial relationships and even qualifying black citizens as 100% human lost that battle. When it comes down to it if you invade upon individual rights and liberties you will not win. That is a guarantee. You can stick with this mindset, but you will get left behind as society moves forward and begins to focus on more pressing issues. Since so many gays focus on their own rights lets talk about the heterosexuals' rights for a minute. You have the right to not go to a gay wedding, you have the right to walk away if you see two men or women holding hands; you have the right to write about it on this blog, but lets be clear you do not have the right to dictate other people's personal lives and you simply won't be able to, nor will anyone else. Remember, there are the gays who blare it through the streets, but their are just as many that are patiently waiting for the evolution to occur; if society decides to fight the evolution I promise you the silent ones are the ones who you will not want to fight against.

  33. I suggest that all the Gay people join together and start their own country with their own rules and leave us the hell alone. I am sick of them.

  34. Not all Americans are white, male, and heterosexual. We are supposed to be all equal, denying rights to certain groups is unamerican.

  35. "..You have the right to not go to a gay wedding, you have the right to walk away if you see two men or women holding hands; you have the right to write about it on this blog, but lets be clear you do not have the right to dictate other people's personal lives and you simply won't be able to, nor will anyone else.."

Oh, really? How about the new MANDATORY sex ed curricula that are nothing more than indoctrination sessions normalizing the gay lifestyle? Or the people that are being JAILED for daring to call homosexuality the sin that it is?
But we're just a bunch of knuckle-dragging conservative neanderthals that need enlightenment, so we can see that homosexuals' 'rights' are much more important than our own.

This entire movement is not about 'rights'-- it's about special consideration and privileges, and about forcing the majority to accept the perverse lifestyle of a small minority.
And I guarantee it won't end with just that.

    ReplyDelete
  36. but freedom of religion would dictate that neither you nor the government can use religion to affect someone elses life.

Most of societies laws are based on biblical laws and customs.

you should have trusted your instinct and not commented. Now you have removed all doubt.

  37. Reality: The original poster said "your cloud of hatred" not that you hate gay people. Hatred is defined as: The emotion of intense dislike: a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action. As you obviously do feel hatred for homosexuality and you obviously do want to act on that feeling by preventing gay marriage, then the commenter was accurate in his/her assessment.

  38. 3:15 Exactly what special privelages are you referring to? The ones that everyone else is afforded as long as the conservatives define those people as "normal"? Awesome! I just don't understand how Christians assume that they have the right to place judgement upon another human and thaen act upon that judgment to deny his/her freedom. God specifically speaks against such an action. Oh, he also says not to eat grapes because wine can be made from them so don't do that either.

    ReplyDelete
  39. This is what it boils down to:
Those who hide behind the bible on this subject just do not want to say, hey i do not like gay people. I do not like what they are about. If your going to deny someone a right that is given to all other people in this world then at least have a good explination other then "God said they can not be lovers" seriously? The bible also says that a sea parted and that two of every animal fit on one giant boat. Please at least have some sense when you pass judgement, even though according to the bible we shouldn't do that either.....

    ReplyDelete
  40. How many racist rednecks can you fit on one site? I lol'd at someone trying to add an educated comment to a discussion and still refers to the African American community as "blacks". Really, you really aren't racist? It is so hilarious to see those talk about freedom and liberty on here and how our government denies us rights that we should have. This is exaclty what you people are doing to the gay culture. Anyone who can not link the experience that gay people are having now to the experience of African American's and think its SUCH a stretch, think about it. It really isn't. I wouldn't say the gay culture has had to jump over half the hurdles but it is still people denied rights for being who they are. Point blank. End of story. They are not like "US" so therefore they can not have our rights. So we can not seperate rights based on race but we can based on sexual preference......makes sense to me.

  41. I am a straight man who has gay friends that are in meaningfull relationships.I respect their relationship even though it is against my preferences.I am more politically conservative than most but I believe in the freedom that our constitution provides for our citizens. I think freedom is the key issue here, therefore I have no problem with gay marriage. I also understand and respect those that are against it.Live and let live and persue happiness as long as it does not intrude on the freedom of others. If the law is to be changed however, it should be put to a vote and not shoved down our throats by vote whoring politicians.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @ 1:50

That is a great statement. I am also straight as can be, and I really do not have any gay friends. But what I do realize as a human being is that I really love my significant other. I would go to the end of the world for her. What if I were in their position, what if you were? It is easy to sit here and say "Those people are not like us" but to really understand where they are coming from is a whole different story. Sure a vote is exactly what is needed. No gay coalition trying to force their beliefs on the rest or no straight coalition or governemt telling the people they can not marry. A vote is perfect.
