Be Careful Paying On Line With Delmarva Power This Weekend

Joe,

My daughter just called me. She was logging on to the Delmarva Power site to pay her bill, and the “word verification” page had changed and changed her log on name. This site stores your credit card # when you make a payment. At this time, she is notifying the Sheriff’s department so they can notify their IT dept. Spread the word, if you will. She works in computers and makes pages like this for a living, so she knows what she’s talking about.

  2. I am the one who noticed the hijacked website. I noticed when I typed my user name that the font color was wrong. Clicked continue to go to the next page where you enter your password and noticed that my security image (how Del Power lets you know that you're actually logging in to a secure site) was INCORRECT. Never enter your password if the security image is wrong.

I called delmarva power to address this and the man I spoke to did not understand the severity of this situation but said he would e-mail the network security team.

The sheriff's office did not have the resources to take care of an issue relating to cyber security.

Salisbury & Wicomico County don't seem to understand internet security...

  4. Anyone who has noticed this, I would urge that you may have your card info in danger if you gave it. I am a paper bill/ write a check customer, so I am unfamiliar. If you feel you have seen this difference and paid online this weekend, I would urge you to call them in the morning and verify your payment.

  5. good advice anon 4:52. Also call your bank or check your credit/bank card transactions and make sure no unauthorized charges have been made. And probably a good time to update all passwords.

  6. Delmarva Power does not accept credit cards for payment of your monthly utility bill online.

They will accept credit card payments via telephone - but there is a $10 processing fee charged.

The DP&L site must be bogus - as I also received a notification yesterday and it did not look proper.

  7. Beezer, how does one pay online without a credit card number? I'm puzzled! Bank Card?

DP&L's website will allow you to enter your personal bank account number and then they will debit your account. However, they presently do not accept payment via credit card as of last week. How do I know - because I called them last week and asked them about accepting a credit card for payment. Their answer - we do not accept credit card payments for monthly electric bills. If it is an emergency - they will take the transaction via credit card but will charge your account $10 to do the transaction.

  9. Rebecca,

Are you sure you entered the right username? In the past I've entered what I thought was my username and got a security image that wasn't mine. I then had them send my username to me and it turned out I was entering the wrong name. When I entered the right name, everything was OK.

I just went to the website and everything seemed perfectly fine. From what I can tell, it appears the error is on your part, not theirs.

  10. "The sheriff's office did not have the resources to take care of an issue relating to cyber security."

Internet Security is not he job of the Sheriff's Office. They are a county police force, not an internet security police force. Contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center. They will forward it appropriately. Although your complaint sounds bogus to me.

  12. SOMETHING is going on that should not be. Wife & I were just discusssing several wierd messages on the net referencing "not authorized". I suspect hackers at work.

  13. It's your home computer that has been hijacked, not the Delmarva power site.
