America's double standards!!

America's official language should be english, right? I thought so too....until this morning. Just when I think I have my position on issues such as these set in stone, something comes along and causes me to rethink those positions. It seems as though a Native American student in Wisconsin was suspended for saying "I love you" in her Native American tongue! Wait a minute! We force students in our schools to take a second language but when they speak in the Native American tongue they get suspended? What in the hell is that? We are forcing our local boards or education to cater to those students who can't speak english because their parents have smuggled them across the border illegally into the U.S. costing the taxpayers MILLIONS...but we suspend the students for speaking in the tongue of their parents and grandparents, the ancestors of whom have been here for thousands of years before the first Anglo ever arrived! I may retain my position of English as being the official language of the U.S., but this article has made me recognize that everything isn't as cut and dry as I sometimes imagine it to be. As an aside, when I think of the attrocities the American government has carried out against these people I can't help but think...".....the African Americans want apologies, monetary reparations, and affirmative action policies for slavery (which was no doubt an ugly time in American history) yet the Native Americans get nothing and were subjected to early biological weapons (small pox infected blankets) mass genocide, had their land stolen, and were forced into what essentially amounted to internment camps. Once again it seems like America has her priorities screwed up.

  1. The author's support of making English our official language would be stronger if the author actually mastered the English language.

  3. 9:06 you can always go to the Daily Times where they are always grammatically correct and factually accurate. You are obviously a BOE employee and a spelling/grammer Nazi. Get a life and focus on the subject of the article. I agree with prepper on this. The school employee should be reprimanded for her disciplinary action. Talk about a cuture that has been oppressed. The blacks have nothing on the native american as it relates to oppression .

  4. Want to read a story about some REAL pain and sorrow? My great grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee Indian. Our government forcibly moved them from the lush forests and hills of the eastern seaboard and marched them to the barren plains of the mid-west. In the winter. Without supplies. Not allowed to have horses or weapons. Shot stragglers. Left babies to die on the trail and threatened (or openly murdered) the mothers and fathers who couldn't keep up. Old people slaughtered in front of their children. Beatings, rape, murder were common. Have the Cherokees sued for reparations? Been given ANYTHING like free housing? Free doctors? Free child care? Free ANYTHING? Maybe its because they never asked for anything from their killers. Even today, some reservations don't even have a local hospital. Live in shacks with no running water. But STILL don't want handouts. Some people have proud history. Some don't.
