The Wicomico County Board of Education is seeking input on its calendar for the 2012-2013 school year, prior to a final vote at the March 13 Board meeting. The draft calendar, with school closings and holidays, is posted at www.wcboe.org under Spotlight, on the home page.
Under the proposed calendar, the school year would begin Monday, Aug. 27 and end June 6, 2013. Students would be off Nov. 21-23 for the Thanksgiving break, Dec. 24-Jan. 1 for the winter holidays (schools would close at the regular time Friday, Dec. 21 and reopen Jan. 2), and March 27-April 1 for the spring holidays. June 4, 5 and 6 would be half-days.
Schools would also be closed Sept. 3 (Labor Day), Oct. 19 (Maryland State Education Association Convention), Nov. 6 (General Election), Jan. 21 (Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday), Feb. 18 (Presidents’ Day) and May 27 (Memorial Day). Schools would be closed for students (but open for teachers) for professional days on Sept. 28, Nov. 2, Jan. 22 and 23 Feb. 28 and May 2.
The Board approved the draft calendar on first reading at its Feb. 14 meeting, and expects to adopt a final calendar at the March 13 meeting. Please submit any comments or suggestions by March 2 to comments@wcboe.org or bdail@wcboe.org, or 410-677-5251.
