Solyndra Corp., the bankrupt solar panel maker that owes American taxpayers half a billion dollars, has been systematically trashing hundreds of thousands of glass parts that it hasn’t even paid for, CBS 5 in San Francisco reported.
Solyndra, based in Fremont, Calf., received a $535 million loan guarantee from the Obama administration in 2009 as part of the Energy Department’s push to promote alternative energy. The company filed for bankruptcy last year.
CBS 5 reported Thursday that Solyndra has been dumping hundreds of thousands of new glass tubes used in solar panels. The station, KCBS/KPIX, filmed workers in white jumpsuits tossing the delicate glass tubes into Dumpsters. It said Solyndra paid $2 million for the glass, and owes the German manufacturer $8 million in total.
