School Puts Troubled Kids In 'Scream Room'

Middletown parents, many of whom have children at Farm Hill Elementary School, are outraged about the way the school is dealing with misbehaving students.
Teachers and staff put the children, including those with special needs, in what parents call "scream rooms."
"My 1st grader is there and is not learning because there are so many behavioral problems at that school,” Tricia Belin said.
One parent described the rooms as, “scream closets, where kids bang their heads off of concrete walls.”

  1. Maybe they should keep the children with severe issues out of the mainstream classroom. This happens in our community as well. The whole class will have to stop because "Jon" has a meltdown. It is not fair to "Jon" or the other students in the classroom.

"To address the behavioral issues, Supt. Michael Frechette outlined a plan that would provide additional staff and resources at Farm Hill Elementary"

Additional staff? For what, kids who don't listen (who have the capacity, but don't)? Maybe they need to hand out punishments. I would be flipping mad if our school hired extra people to handle disruptive kids. We have already instituted IS for primary schools, which is ridiculous.

  2. If you as a parent disagree with what the school is doing. Why don't you put your kid in a different school. My kids went to a private school and I had practically no income. But I managed to get by and paid for it. It is a matter of priorities. My wife and I both worked and only had one csr. We didn't have alot . Some people would rather have boats and cars and their big houses and not put their child's education first.

  4. My child hates going to a local middle school, she said there is no control. Someone needs to step up to the plate and do something with children who cannot listen. Others are there to learn, send the behavior issues home and forget a time out room. Make children and parents accountable for something. I should not have to pay for an education when there is public education available.

  5. Another school issue ignored! 4 post?
It's easier to look the other way. This is why education is failing. Children have no responsibility in their actions and parents are not held accountable. Joe, here is a challenge for you, spend some time in a classroom, watch student behavior and report on it. Have people comment on what can be done with students who interfere with the education of so many students. The schools have their hands tied up! What would you do if you were in charge?
