Rats & Mice Living Conditions Better Than Most Americans

Joe,

I was listening to NPR Monday morning and a research director from Johns Hopkins was being interviewed about the new design requirements that the Federal government published for living space requirements for laboratory rats and mice. I was just laughing. He was amazed about the costs to the institution. They went on to review the information with other research universities and NPR, yes NPR reflected that the costs to implement this new living standard for rats and mice would run into costs of hundreds of millions of dollars. It got even better. The director went on to say that because the document was a guideline only, that this left him and others like him in a cloud of uncertainty. It sounded like the world you and I live in EVERY DAY.
