(CLEVELAND) — A northeast Ohio well used to dispose of wastewater from oil and gas drilling almost certainly caused a series of 11 minor quakes in the Youngstown area since last spring, a seismologist investigating the quakes said Monday.
For years I've been hearing about a possible connection between the oil drilling process and earthquakes. When an oil well has run completely dry, water is pumped in to fill the void.Sea water is preferred when available.Water does not have anywhere near the consistency of crude oil, causing an underground instability.
If you look at the energy released in an earthquake and teh magnitude of the area of tectonic displacement. Drilling is just so small in comparison that it has no effect. What does have an effec is the moon phases, tides, and the suns magnatic field. This story is rediculous on its face. Might as well blame global warming
B.S. on this one!
