A Comment Worthy Of A Post 1-13-12

Well lets take a hard look at this, when one breaks out their independance card to buy something do you really think they care about how much tax they are paying? it's all free! As long as baltimore city/county, PG county vote for the demoncrats there is no reason to change anything!

  1. The amount of tax they're paying will affect how long their 'free' money lasts, but I doubt that many of them will make that connection.

  2. As a relative caretaker of 4 children who's drug addicted mother could not raise them I have had to receive assistance from the state. We have never received cash but do get food stamps and medical. People that receive help are not ALL the lazy non caring fools that you all seem to think. I have worked all my life. I have worked hard to raise these kids to be contributing members of society. Without the help we have received they would have all gone to foster care which would have cost tax payers much more. There are many struggling families such as mine. There are also many that do cheat the system. Have multiple cases. Sell their food stamps etc. It's not fair to group us all together. Just as you each have different circumstances in your life so do we and each should be judged on our own merit. We will soon be out of the system as 3 of these kids are now working and going to school. It will be a happy day for us when we no longer need help.

  3. I agree completely with @11:18. We NEED social programs. However, we also need to police them vigourously. I have been in houses with no refrig. or stove and the people were watching a big screen tv, paid for with our assistance. The money spent on staff to enforce the rules could be saved 5x over by cutting out the fraud.@11:18 - I am glad that you are receiving the kind of support you do. And I thank you very much for using it properly. It means a lot to me.

  4. Thank you for commenting, 11:18. When such a comment is "worthy of a post," it just perpetuates the stereotypes that most of these readers believe. Just more hype.

  5. I understand... I really do with 11:18....

I have been broke before. I mean eating nothing but Ramen noodles for a month, no electricity, no cable, no phone, not knowing how i'm gonna pay rent kinda broke. I understand hunger and poverty. I found a way.

The problem is, the ONLY times I see someone using the independence cards, they have a cart full of stuff I would never buy because I personally can't afford it, and or wouldn't buy it because the items are luxury items. On top of that, the people using the cards are wearing leather jackets, have their hair and nails all done up, have designer bags, jewelry... etc etc. This has happened so many times that may be, and unfortunately, that is the image I have. I mean, sterotypes exist for a reason, right. The system is being abused... and with MY hard earned tax dollars.

We really do need better policing/limiting of these cards.
