Salisbury City Council Wants To Review A New City Solicitor Possibility

Could we be seeing the end of Paul Wilber? While Mayor Ireton was campaigning, he wanted Wilber gone. Well, like almost everything we've seen from this Mayor, it was all BS anyway. The Mayor stated:

“Neither myself or the City Administrator John Pick were invited to the afternoon meeting. I predicted Mr. Wilber’s demise when the council took control of the legal services for the city. I believe the petition to put the decision to referendum would have garnered enough signatures had the public known that the removal of Mr. Wilber was the real reason behind the move."

While we all know how paranoid Mayor Jim Ireton and Councilwoman Laura Mitchell are, IF they took the time to look at Wilber's CONTRACT, it is to be reviewed in January. THIS IS JANUARY. It is up to the COUNCIL to decide if they'll continue with Wilber's firm OR look into additional candidates in which Mayor Ireton ASKED for some time ago. Was it a scam by the Mayor? Was he just saying these things to get elected? Why point fingers at the Council when HE was the one who put out a proposal to invite as many firms interested to come forward and offer their services.

The Council is simply looking into these two other firms, Long & Hall and Seidel, Baker and Tilghman. IF the Council feels these other firms can better serve the City Taxpayers and at the same time save the Taxpayers money, it's time to make a move and I say do so immediately. Wilber has proven way too many times in the past, he's clueless and quite frankly useless.

Mayor Ireton and Councilwoman Lora Mitchell have NO INTEREST in what's best for the Taxpayers and quite frankly couldn't care less. These other firms, (at this point) are simply being evaluated. City Clerk Brenda Colegrove has been asked to send these firms a series of questions at this point to see if they are qualified and the City, (I'm sure) will continue to retain Wilber's services as they have been involved in several ongoing cases.

Moving on to the Mayor's next statement:

"Besides sacking Paul Wilber, the council majority has decided to contest my nomination of Rick Hoppes for Salisbury Fire Chief. The City Council had a very busy Friday afternoon that literally nobody (except for Adam Roop and Kaye Gibson) in the public knew about.”

EXCUSE ME JIM IRETON, Salisbury News published this information yesterday, WHERE WERE YOU? The "PUBLIC NOTICE" was legally published and while you may not like it, the process was done in a legal manor.

As for Rick Hoppes, My God Jim, how many times did I personally ask you in your Press Conference IF the process you were taking was LEGAL? Even the Daily Times tried to directly ask you the same thing, we ALL tried to make sure YOU were on the record with an answer to our questions because your simply stating this is what YOU want does NOT make it legal.

The City Council has NOT stated they do not want Rick Hoppes. They are simply stating they want to make damn sure that IF they were to fulfill your wishes that it is done so in a legal manor so as it doesn't come back and bite them in perhaps SEVERAL lawsuits. Funny how I knew and the Daily Times knew there was no way this was legal.

So there you have it Folks. This Post will stay up top for the rest of the evening. If you have an opinion referencing either one of these topics please share your thoughts. I support the City Council 100% on these moves. If I felt they were wrong or out of line I can assure you I would say so. There's been no game here. They are proving to keep the Taxpayers best interest in mind and the young and childish Mayor is like a little kid who wants things NOW. I'm telling you, the next time we need someone with business experience because this Mayor is an absolute fool.

In closing, SHAME ON THE DAILY TIMES! Once again the Daily Times has published WHAT THEY WERE FED! While the Daily Times reporter was in fact there, if you look at their on line article is was written by the Mayor and they simply publish what he wants heard. The Main Stream Media SUCKS any more and they themselves know it. New, young reporters who have NO CLUE what the City's political history is, is exactly what Greg Bassett and Joe Carmean want so they can butcher their articles and push a political agenda. And they wonder why we keep growing and they keep falling apart. TRY TELLING THE TRUTH FOR ONCE!

  1. Joe,

I sat at this meeting in awe. While Mr. Ireton might claim he "was not invited", he was certainly in the building. He shook my hand when I was in the lobby. Why didn’t he step in on the meeting and participate? I don’t feel he should be complaining one bit. Furthermore, during a quick break, Mr. Ireton went into Room #301, where he addressed Mrs. Mitchell. Quickly after that, Mrs. Mitchell claimed that the council members illegally called the meeting and abruptly left the building. It was quite embarrassing. Especially when Mrs. Colegrove, affirmed that the council took the necessary measures to make sure it was announced properly and affirmed it was in fact a legal organized meeting.

There is a lot of name pointing by certain people of the administration. I was proud to hear that majority of the council members are tired of being subject to such adversity and announced on the record, that they will be making their frustrations and problems known through open sessions, rather than behind closed doors. I can also agree with several members of the council. From some of the situations and monetary figures they were throwing out there, citizens of Salisbury would be outraged to hear what the members had divulged. At this point, I am not saying I announce my support for any given council member. However, I found myself shaking my head in discontent to the way this administration works with each other to accomplish goals and pass or deny legislation. Drastic change must occur for the good of this City. Rapor must be reestablished between the members so more can be accomplished. The inefficiency and the money this administration is costing the tax payers is sickening. How can you pass anything at all, if you can’t get along with one another?

This was my first time at a work session, but overall, even through all the drama, I felt it was very productive. Mr. Ireton and Mr. Wilber weren’t present, so maybe this was the reason why? I can respect the council making their claims on record. This meeting exposed many things and has already shown some true colors of the members involved.

Just telling it like it is. There are real issues facing this administration...citizens take note and stand up. Salisbury, unite.

  3. Jim Ireton you personally told me and many others many times you were going to replace Paul Wilber! The city council only did what was necessary and what you promised us you would do. You promised getting rid of Hoppes and Gordy. You promised getting rid of Alan Webster. You promised getting rid of John Pick. Since the first day you were sworn in you jumped right in bed with your enemies and loved all over them. You are far worse of a Mayor than Barrie Tilghman could ever be.

Jim Ireton how could you turn your back on your long time friend Debbie Campbell like you have done!

Jim Ireton how could you turn your back on Debbie, Terry and Tim after they worked hard to get you elected.

Jim Ireton how could you turn your back on all the citizens that spent countless hours campaigning for you!

Jim Ireton you are a lying thief and you need to hang your head in shame and resign from the office of the mayor immediately!

  4. The City Council had a very busy Friday afternoon that literally nobody (except for Adam Roop and Kaye Gibson) in the public knew about,” Ireton said late Friday afternoon.

This was obviously a jab at Adam Roop and Kaye Gibson. Ms. Gibson was a big supporter of Ireton's and now look how he is treating her.

  6. This press release was nothing but a whining mess from a big crybaby. Nothing was factual and all Ireton wanted to do was attack his former friends. He is a power hungry office girl. What a sissy!!

  8. For a guy who says he wasn't invited and apparently didn't attend, how the pluck does he know what went on at the meeting?

    Just sayin'

Sounds like Ireton and Mitchell are just blabbering out their holes.

Was the Times reporter even there? Or did she just take dictation and say, "Ireton sez"?

Joe, did you get any straight poop from anybody on this?

  9. Mr. Roop,

    Jim Ireton wasn't there.

    Laura Mitchell left early.

    Was Shanie Shields there?

    Was the reporter there?

I want to know how much of this release from Ireton is true, or if any of it is.

    Thank you.

  11. What is wrong with Paul Wilber? Seems like a nice enough guy. He's a hold over from Tilghman and the Dream Team. He presided over the Bricks, developer reimbursements, and regulations that don't do what we were promised. He has been well paid for his work, he has hade ample opportunity, I will be glad to see someone new.

  12. The Daily Times reporter WAS there and completely LIED in her article. How long are their subscribers going to put up with their crap, seriously. Even their own employees are ashamed to be a part of them any more.

Shanie Shields NEVER showed up for ANY part of this meeting.

  13. Lora Mitchell- legal manor.(again) legal manor Wilber has proven way too many times in the past, he's clueless and quite frankly useless. the City, (I'm sure) will continue to retain Wilber's services (why would they continue to retain and pay a useless lawyer to complete task he is clueless about. That is sure a bright bunch ruining Salisbury)

    huh?

  15. 4:58

Mr. Ireton was in the building. I never said he was in the meeting. But instead of complaining via the internet, why didn't he come into the meeting to participate? While he wasn't in room #301 he was right across the hall. I could hear him laughing and carrying on. At break, right before Mrs. Mitchell announced her departure, he shook my hand and said "you can have it [Mayor] for today" and walked into the room to talk with Mrs. Mitchell. So, actually..now that I am explaining it in laments terms...he was "there"...for approx 1 minute. Which after being there, then immediatley proceeded to go back across the hall. Where I guess he then began to write that press release...maybe that was why he was laughing so loud?!?

Why would I be making that up 4:58? I sat through the whole meeting and witnessed the shenanigans for myself. Any thing else you want to know?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wow...i just read the article from The Daily Times and it's bogus. The council did not say they we're firing Mr. Wilber. They didnt even have a vote. Mrs. Mitchell left the meeting in the middle of the discussion. Shanie wasn't there. The reporter was only there for approx 30 monutes and didn't even stay for the whole Fire Chief discussion, which was first on the agenda. The only people in the audience for the Wilber discussion and for by he whole 2 hour and 45 minute meeting was Mrs. Gibson and myself.

Is the Daily Times policing their employees posts? Sorry, but that's just sad. I think before you believe anyone 4:58, look at the minutes of the meeting, and see if there was even a motion made to vote. Mr. Ireton, if you are any leader at all, you need to step up and give the Times the accurate information and stop bashing your council.

  17. The shame of it is that people voted for Jim because they thought he hsd the best interest of Salisbury at heart. He has proven again that his political agenda and future is his only concern.

  18. It has become painfully obvious that Lunch Money Ireton wants to be the executive body and the legislative body of City of Salisbury. This guy is starving so much for attention, popularity and power that he will go out of his way to attack the ones that were once his friends. This childish, immature press release proves how warped Jim Ireton's mind really his. Poor Jessie Cocci for having to put up with his SH!T!. I wouldn't blame her if she left as well. They have lost many good employee's in the last 2 years because of Lunch Money Ireton. If he was a good mayor no one would want to leave. The last HR person left because of Ireton and now Brenda. Don't tell me it's because Brenda can retire. The city didn't pay that much for her to really survive in today's economy.

Ireton has no future in politics, he's from the bottom of the honey wagon. What is he, Laura Mitchell's pimp? Come here Laura, I'll tell you how it's done.

He treats Debbie and Terry just like Gary did when he was on the council. What a bunch of BS his campaign was, get out of the way Ireton, there's work to get done.

  24. Is this a press release or something written by the Times reporter?

Why are the names of the two attendees inserted into that quote? Was that Ireton's doing or the reporters?

Any more, I can't tell the difference between an Ireton press release and a so-called "news" story by the Times!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good question, 10:20. I believe that it's the Council that is causing so much of the uproar; this is turn is causing us to lose many fine employees because of such a caustic environment. I'm not convinced that "Ireton is out to lunch." If I had to work with that Council, I'd be out to lunch too!

  26. I do not know Adam Roop and I don't have horse in this race.

But reading what the man has written here, I believe him 100%.

It sounds like Jim Ireton (I will no longer call him mayor) and the Daily Times are just printing whatever they want, regardless of whether it is true or not.

Laura Mitchell looks like she is holding her own out of public view meetings and not doing her duty at real meetings of the council.

How arrogant of Jim Ireton to shake Mr. Roop's hand and make a comment like that.

Ireton's behavior is a disgrace. He and Laura Mitchell appear to be just defaming council members then running and ducking for cover.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and let the people know. I wish I could make it to these meetings because obviously nothing that newspaper writes can be trusted.

I watch what I believe that's on here too but once enough gets said here, a person can pretty much figure out what's true.

  29. 11:51, believe what you want. I believe the mayor is running people off. It's not the council out there over and over holding a press conference with city staff involved bashing the people they don't agree with. People are waking up and smelling the coffee, despite the propaganda of the Daily Times and Jimbo's Reign of a Thousand Press Releases.

Has Jim Ireton forgotten that it was Hoppes, Gordy and their Henchmen who broke the news on the other blog that the Mayoral Candidate was arrested in Delaware during a late night escapade on a known homosexual beach. It was that gang that exposed Ireton's lifestyle in hopes of sabotaging the election in favor of Gary Comegys. Has he forgotten that Gordy was Comegys treasurer? Those 2 were tied at the hip.

  55. A Blast from the Past from your idiot Boy Mayor:

Salisbury Mayor Apologizes for Profanity Used in Interview
    Updated: May 14, 2010 10:55 AM EDT

SALISBURY, Md.- Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton has apologized for using profanity in a taped interview with an area newspaper. Ireton released a statement Monday night expressing regret.

"I should have been more careful with my choice of words. I apologize to those offended and will use more restraint and a more appropriate vocabulary going forward," Ireton said.

Last week Ireton was interviewed by The [Salisbury] Daily Times to discuss his first year in office. The hour-long interview was taped and posted online.

During the interview, Ireton uses profanity several times.

In one excerpt the mayor discusses trash in the Wicomico River, saying he does not want people "looking at that s*** sitting in the river."

The interview also includes what some people say are inappropriate comments. Ireton criticizes city officials, whispers the name of a minority business while discussing people who throw trash on the street, and suggests the job led former Mayor Barrie Tilghman to drink.

Former Salisbury City Council member Mike Dunn watched the video and calls Ireton's comments disappointing, especially since he is a teacher.

"We all make mistakes, those of us that have been in public office," said Dunn, who served as president of the council from 2003 to 2007. "I'm sure Mayor Ireton regrets many of the things that he says, yet at the same time I think he owes his students an apology, owes the people of the city of Salisbury an apology."

Ireton told WBOC that everyone makes mistakes and he has learned from this incident.

Isn't it interesting how the media caught Jim Ireton making racist comments about minorities, especially a business owner and gets a way with it.

Interesting how he had that press conference in the Church Street with Shanie Shields calling Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen racist. Now we know who the true racist is.

Does anyone have a copy of this interview?

  59. Mike Dunn threw the crumpled paper at an elderly woman. He told Bob Caldwell in the GOB hallway in front of others to run for office so Dunn and his crew could "**cking crush" Bob.

Thanks to Salisbury News, I remember those things well.

I wish Bob Caldwell had been elected. Even on a sickbed and a deathbed, the man would have stood head and shoulders above the trashy immature likes of Ireton and Dunn both.

  60. Dear Jim Ireton,

I know that you and or your handlers will read this. I not only voted for you in the last election, I asked my friends and neighbors to do so as well. I worked for your campaign.
You have kicked those who believed in you to the curb. You want to still be "friends." You have broken every promise you have made. You have sold us and the city out. You are not worthy of being called "friend" or "leader" by people like me who trusted you.
I can't believe that I'm saying this, but you really should resign. Not only are your actions not moving the city forward, they are doing even greater damage.

  61. Thank you for keeping this at the top. It is an important story. Press release after press release by Ireton and Mitchell. They are too busy spreading lies and getting their quotes in the press to do their work.

  62. To the one or two commenters who have supported Hoppes on here as permanent fire chief. He has had a chance and he failed us the citizens. He has been an acting chief for over a year and he failed the city and the fire department. He was given a chance as a fire fighter and he failed. He was given a chance as an assistant chief and a deputy chief and he failed. He was given the chance to meet the educational requirements for fire chief and he failed. He was given a chance by the tax payers and he failed us by spending millions of dollars. He is why the city is paying for 5 brand new unneeded fire trucks. He is the reason the city is paying for a $14 million unneeded fire station less than a half mile from a perfectly good one. He is the reason the city is paying for an unneeded Hazmat truck that cost the tax payers almost $200,000 and it was supposed to be a grant. He is the reason why the city is paying for 2 rehabbed fairly new fire trucks. He is the reason the city is getting a brand new state of the art, unneeded fire boat. He is the reason the city will be paying for a brand new miniversion of Station 16 on Brown Street. He is the reason the city is paying for a brand new unneeded air light rescue truck for Station 1.

Think about this. Rick Hoppes was appointed "Acting Fire Chief" just over a year and a half ago in June of 2010 and he didn't meet the educational requirements then. This is now January 2012 and Jim Ireton's press release said he would be getting his "BS" degree in December of 2012. That is almost another year from now. That in itself is proof that Rick Hoppes is lazy and milking the Tax Payers. He had his chance to make the educational requirement, but his laziness got the best of him.

I don't know about you but I am done with giving these crooks a chance at another failure.

    MAYOR IRETON ARE YOU LISTENING!!

  63. Newsflash: Mayor Ireton, in case you weren't aware Rick Hoppes and Gordy were working hard for the Comegys Campaign. Are you sure that is going to be your pick as a department head? The taxpayers can not afford anymore of his wasteful spending with your blessing.

  64. Spin, spin, spin - Ireton the drama queen is just doing his political spin to discredit the only people in this city who have the guts to say "this isn't working, we need to find another way."

To the assaulted council majority, I say, "You GO, Girls and Guy!" Change is never neat and tidy, especially when you try to do it against the tidal wave of drama thrown at you by Ireton and Mitchell.

    January 15, 2012 9:43 AM

I couldn't have said this any better myself. Jim Ireton you have caused great harm to this city. You were the one that gave the citizens false hope with your tired Mantra "Help is on The Way!" You were the one that stabbed your friends and followers in the back just to get your 15 minutes of fame. You are the one that has a warped mind thinking your still have followers and they follow your every move. Guess what Ireton, you need to get back on your meds because you are a fake and a fraud. You are one of the most hated individuals in the City of Salisbury. I believe I can say this as a fact that you are more hated and despised than Barrie Parsons Tilghman!

Does anyone dispute that last statement?

  67. Jim Ireton you are a waste of human breath and for some reason the "controversial" comment Joe said about Barrie comes to mind.

  69. Just a couple of days ago Salisbury News posted an article criticizing the acting fire chief for flying out to Canada twice to see his new $1 Million fire boat the U.S.S. Ireton. Does anyone know if the members of the Salisbury Fire Department trained and qualified to operate this vessel? Does anyone know how much this training will cost the tax payers? Does anyone know what the annual cost of maintenance is? Does anyone know why the City of Salisbury tax payers need this boat?

    Please tell us WHY!!!

  70. How much money has Wilber cost the city with his rewrites and corrections of his own work? How many times have Cohen, Campbell, the public, and even a judge found weaknesses or inaccuracies in Wilber's work for the city? How many times has he "opined" in one way and then changed his mind later to suit the situation?

  72. Part of Jim Ireton's(I refuse to call him Mayor) with Councilwoman Campbell is the fact that he is bitter with her because she gained more votes in District 2 than Jim Ireton gained in the entire city wide election. That message alone speaks volumes. The people want Debbie Campbell to represent them and you are usurping their wishes with your lies and sissy a$$ press releases.

Either do your best to work together as city representatives or we will work hard to make sure you are never elected to another position again. You have next year, 2013 to right your wrongs and believe me many of us don't have a short memory.

Jim Ireton starting now, early in 2012 I would advise you to turn over a new leaf and move this city forward with the help of all council members.

  73. Memo to Jim Ireton:

You are the mayor and the department heads work for you. You are the Mayor and the department heads are chosen by you and confirmed by the majority city council members.

Why are you allowing John Pick to chose the department heads for the city of Salisbury. You work for us. You represent us. We voted you in office to make the decisions for us not John Pick. It's time for you to chose the right department heads for our city.

  74. I just went back looking at some videos of Jim Ireton running for mayor to see some lies. Sure enough one thing he kept saying is he "won't stand for status quo." Well isn't Paul Wilber and Rick Hoppes form the Reign of Terror of the Barrie Tilghman Regime? HELLO, Jimbo those 2 are the status quo!!

You know it isn't Hoppes and you knew that when you took office. You lied to the citizens and the members of the fire department. You have been in office almost 3 years and you haven't done anything you promised to do. That is 3/4's of your term and the majority of the house hasn't been cleaned yet!

    Chief Behaved Inappropriately, Firefighters Say

CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- More details emerged Wednesday about a fire chief accused of improperly touching department employees.

Firefighters listed 15 incidents in a complaint filed against Clearcreek Township Fire Chief Bernie Becker, who they said touched or grabbed them at least nine times.

One firefighter said Becker tried to kiss him and another said the chief made comments to Careflight nurses about appearing in a sexually oriented video.

Employees also claimed that Becker followed them into the restroom and looked at them, and they said the allegations are “just the tip of the iceberg.”

Police opened an investigation into their claims, but a township official said the allegations about Becker surprised him.

“He's built this department from a part paid-part volunteer department to having three fire stations,” said Clearcreek Township Trustee Dennis Pickett. “He's been very active in the community, successfully passed or helped to pass a fire levy that's allowed us to add full-time personnel.”

Becker was not available for comment, but the township administrator said he would decide Monday whether to place the fire chief on administrative leave during the investigation.

No firefighters wanted to speak on camera, but Pickett said no complaints had been lodged prior to the recent report.

Becker previously worked as a firefighter in both Anderson and Colerain townships, where officials said he compiled an outstanding record.

Cohen, Spies and Campbell have no high political aspirations. None are wealthy or well-connected to the ruling class. They are just like us, but speaking for myself, way smarter.

Classic case of the dumb kids who feel threatened by the smart kids. Ireton and his kind never matured out of middle school.

The 3 council members are the best for Salisbury. Why doesn't Jim Ireton work with them to find common ground and come up with an internal candidate they can all work with. We already know Hoppes and Tull aren't the ones.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Hoppes is not right man for the job and Ireton is doing the lazy way out allowing John Pick to make the choice. Hoppes is not qualified and may not be qualified for over a year. If Jim strays from the guide lines and requirements their will be a lawsuit, especially after Jim Ireton said Hoppes was more qualified out of all the previous candidates. The problem Ireton is he is a liar and he has no clue what he is talking about. Just because Ireton doesn't check the facts before he speaks we citizens do.

  91. Keep this to the top please!!

  92. Why would Ireton rush to appoint Rick Hoppes as the permanent fire chief for the city? Is he stupid? Is he lazy? Did he not know there was a proper procedure to follow? There was a reason for the big rush. Why would he listen to John Pick's suggestions? Why won't he listen to the will of the people? The city needs someone who can get along with the Mayor and Council. Hoppes has already proven he can't get along with council members. As the previous acting fire chief he was so confident because of the council majority with his side kick Comegys he was always openly sarcastic to 2 of the council members. This is not the leadership the city needs to lead the Salisbury Fire Department. Salisbury needs better. Mayor Ireton please do your job and do the right thing.

Very stupid bringing this guy back for an interview the second time knowing this guys past and baggage.

    Judge dismisses ex-fire chief’s lawsuit

By Lawrence Budd, Staff Writer 10:47 AM Thursday, March 4, 2010

LEBANON — With a five-day trial beckoning, a Warren County judge dismissed the lawsuit filed by Clearcreek Twp.’s fire chief accusing the local firefighters’ union of defamation and invasion of privacy.

Bernie Becker, fire chief since 1997, retired in July 2008 as trustees were to consider review of an internal investigation of complaints brought against him by members of the local union. In a lawsuit filed in October 2008 in Warren County Common Pleas Court, Becker claimed he had lost one job and been passed over for more than 90 others as a result of what he claimed were malicious claims by the union.

The union accused Becker of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment and abuse of power in a complaint made to township officials in February 2008.

On Feb. 24, Judge James Flannery ruled Becker failed to “show that the union entertained serious doubts about the truth of the allegations” in the complaint. The trial was set to begin on Monday,
March 1.

Your grammar sucks. What is the "In fact, the Chief Becker sued?

What is "he is a top education at a prestigious University?"

If Bernie Becker's leadership is of such great caliber than why hasn't he secured another Fire Chief's position since he was forced out of his former job? Surely some fire department in the nation would grab such a great leader as Mr. Bernie.

This could be no one other than Bernie "the pervert" Becker himself pimping for a job after approximately 3 years.

People in Salisbury aren't that stupid to not even check the facts. Your statement is full of lies and should never have been posted. What a desperate attempt to get a job.

  100. One problem within the Salisbury Fire Department the Mayor and City Council needs to seriously avoid is Jeff Simpson's own "senior" assistant chief Tull. Promoting him any further would be the demise of the fire department. He is currently working behind the scenes to get the top job.

  101. Bernie Becker is a borderline Registered Sex Offender. The only reason he didn't get charged criminally for what he done is because people in government positions like a fire chief are allowed to resign quietly. Just because he wasn't charged doesn't mean he is innocent. If the man was innocent then he would still be employed as a fire chief in Clearcreek Township.
