Thomas Leggs Guilty, To Serve Two Life Sentences

Today the most infamous crime in Wicomico County's recent memory came to an incomplete conclusion. Thomas Leggs pleaded guilty to 7 counts, including the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Sarah Foxwell. For this he will serve two consecutive life sentences (without the possibility of parole), as SBYNews reported earlier. According to statements by the State's Attorney's office, this arrangement was made at the request of some members of Foxwell's family to provide closure and to spare Foxwell's sister the pain of testifying in a trial.

In a press conference after today's hearing, Roberta Wexler - Grandmother of Sarah Foxwell - used her forum to attack SBYNews and its publisher - Joe Albero. Wexler contends that Albero has "taken advantage" of her family and states that she has filed a complaint with the Wicomico State's Attorney's office. According to State's Attorney Matt Maciarello:

"... I have not received any information that Albero has committed any crimes."

We at SBYNews hope that this plea deal does bring closure to members of Foxwell's family and that Ms. Wexler's baseless comments not be judged too harshly in light of the circumstances. The spin on this case from the State's Attorney's office is that the Foxwell's family is united in this decision. It needs to be noted that some members of her family, including Sarah Foxwell's father, did not agree with this plea deal. (However, today he did.) We also feel the necessity to note that some commenters seem to believe that this is a satisfactory conclusion because of the possibility of Thomas Leggs being murdered in jail. However, we live in a nation built on the rule of law and if Thomas Leggs deserved a death sentence, as we believe he does, then he should have been convicted of his crimes and receive that sentence.

While the State's Attorney's office and one side of Sarah Foxwell's family attempted to divert attention from today's unsatisfactory outcome, the citizens of Wicomico County should remember that this case is about the rape and murder of a little 11 year old girl and the need for justice. This includes justice for the citizens of Wicomico County and the state of Maryland. IF the citizens of Maryland desire to make certain crimes capital offenses, then such crimes should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Using the excuse that no one has been recently executed in Maryland is not a valid reason for not seeking the death penalty. The message now seems to be that, with the possible exception of killing a law enforcement officer, there are no capital crimes in Wicomico County.

Proposed Plea Agreement For Thomas Leggs

The following is the proposed plea agreement between the State of Maryland vs. Thomas Leggs for the murder of 11 year old Sarah Foxwell.

1. Life with no chance for parole for the murder of Sarah Foxwell.


2. Life with no chance for parole for the rape of a minor.


3. 30 years for the kidnapping of Sarah Foxwell.


4. 20 years for burglary.

Each part requires Leggs serve each sentence consecutively. It should be noted, ANYTHING can change between now and the time the Judge bangs his gavel. We will provide more details immediately following the hearing. I will not say anything further until we return. There is an expected press conference right after this hearing is complete.

We will explain WHY tomorrow. As much as I'd like to do so now, it makes more sense to wait.

DOES SALISBURY NEED ANOTHER “CIVILITY” MAVEN ON CITY COUNCIL?

When I hear Laura Mitchell prattle on about the need for a Council that exudes civility in its actions, I’m reminded of the “fab four” – Dunn, Cathcart, Comegys and Smith – who mouthed that same mantra in their campaigns. They who praise and promise civility if elected often (as in those cases) are unwilling or unable to deliver after being elected, when they must play in the real arena of elected politics, where reasonable compromise requires talent and temperament they lack. Such candidates tend to interpret their election, despite however close it was, as a unanimous appointment as a dictator – do it my was (“civility) or I’ll blast you for not being “civil.”

We know almost nothing about Ms. Mitchell’s personality or her positions. In that sense she seems much like Louise Mitchell four years ago: trust me, I want to play nice (if it’s done my way).

Libyan rebel commander admits his fighters have al-Qaeda links

Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, has said jihadists who fought against allied troops in Iraq are on the front lines of the battle against Muammar Gaddafi's regime.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Mr al-Hasidi admitted that he had recruited "around 25" men from the Derna area in eastern Libya to fight against coalition troops in Iraq. Some of them, he said, are "today are on the front lines in Adjabiya".

Mr al-Hasidi insisted his fighters "are patriots and good Muslims, not terrorists," but added that the "members of al-Qaeda are also good Muslims and are fighting against the invader".

His revelations came even as Idriss Deby Itno, Chad's president, said al-Qaeda had managed to pillage military arsenals in the Libyan rebel zone and acquired arms, "including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries".

Mr al-Hasidi admitted he had earlier fought against "the foreign invasion" in Afghanistan, before being "captured in 2002 in Peshwar, in Pakistan". He was later handed over to the US, and then held in Libya before being released in 2008.

US and British government sources said Mr al-Hasidi was a member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, or LIFG, which killed dozens of Libyan troops in guerrilla attacks around Derna and Benghazi in 1995 and 1996.

A Man-Made Energy Crisis

Gas is well over $4 a gallon in most places in California — and soaring elsewhere as well. But are such high energy prices good or bad?

That should be a stupid question. Yet it is not, when the Obama administration has stopped new domestic offshore oil exploration in many American waters, curbed oil leases in the West, and keeps oil-rich areas of Alaska exempt from drilling. Last week, President Obama went to Brazil and declared of that country’s new offshore finds: “With the new oil finds off Brazil, President [Dilma] Rousseff has said that Brazil wants to be a major supplier of new stable sources of energy, and I’ve told her that the United States wants to be a major customer, which would be a win-win for both our countries.”

Consider the logic of the president’s Orwellian declaration: The United States in the last two years has restricted oil exploration of the sort Brazil is now rushing to embrace. We have run up more than $4 trillion in consecutive budget deficits during the Obama administration and are near federal insolvency. Therefore, the United States should be happy to borrow more money to purchase the sort of “new stable sources of energy” from Brazil’s offshore wells that we most certainly will not develop off our own coasts.

It seems as if paying lots more for electricity and gas, in European fashion, was originally part of the president’s new green agenda. He helped push cap-and-trade legislation through the House of Representatives in 2009. Had such Byzantine regulations become law, a recessionary economy would have sunk into depression. Obama appointed the incompetent Van Jones as “green-jobs czar” — until Jones’s wild rantings confirmed that he knew nothing about his job description “to advance the administration’s climate and energy initiatives.”

At a time of trillion-dollar deficits, the administration is borrowing billions to promote high-speed rail, and is heavily invested in the federally subsidized $42,000 Government Motors Chevy Volt. Apparently the common denominator here is a deductive view that high energy prices will force Americans to emulate European centrally planned and state-run transportation.

TROOPERS PERFORM LIFE SAVING CPR ON SIDE OF THE ROAD

(Rockville, MD) – Two Maryland state troopers possibly saved the life of a Montgomery County woman early this morning, using CPR, after finding her on the side of the road in a disabled vehicle, suffering from an apparent asthma attack.

The woman is identified as Denise Murray, 23, of the 16,000 block of Kipling Road in Derwood, Maryland. She was admitted to Suburban Hospital and is said to be in serious condition.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Rockville Barrack received a report of a disabled vehicle located on the shoulder of northbound Route 270 at Exit 1. Police were told the driver of the disabled vehicle was inside the vehicle and hysterical without a cell phone to call for help.

Troopers, assigned to the Rockville Barrack, immediately responded and found Murray sitting in the driver’s seat of a black Jeep Liberty, crying and gasping for air. It appeared as though Murray was suffering from a severe asthma attack. While struggling to speak, she was able to communicate her inability to breath. She also indicated to the troopers that she felt like she was about to faint, when she suddenly became unconscious.

Trooper First Class A. Kolle quickly reclined Murray’s driver seat and rendered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while Trooper First Class A. Crucillo monitored her pulse to ensure she was receiving oxygen until EMS personnel arrived on the scene. Murray was transported to Suburban Hospital where she is currently being treated.

Disney Animator: 'Gay' Characters Only Matter Of Time

It's only a matter of time and circumstance before Disney movies feature homosexual characters or "families," according to one of the company's animators.

In a little-noticed story by the Australian news website News.com.au, animator Andreas Deja, who reported working on the Disney films "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin" and "The Lion King," said the company is open to the concept of homosexual entertainment.

"Is there ever going to be a family that has two dads or two mums? Time will tell," he said. "I think once they find the right kind of story with that kind of concept, they will do it.

"It has to be the right kind of story and you have to find that first," said Deja, according to News.com.au.

Disney, which already allows various "gay days" and other such events at its theme parks, is a "gay-friendly" company, Deja said. The report cited "Lion King" contributor Elton John as well as the late Howard Ashman, who worked on the lyrics to "The Little Mermaid."

Ex-CIA Operative: Obama Never Properly Vetted

As an executive recruiter, I provided a 100 percent guarantee to my clients. When my candidate showed up for the interview, that candidate was ready, willing, and able to do the job. However, the most crucial step was vetting the candidate.

The candidate provided references and signed releases to allow me to obtain records of his education, citizenship, criminal history, civil court actions, and other documents.

As a CIA case officer, I dealt with people of dubious backgrounds, making outrageous claims, in search of solutions to their problems. I had to assess their personalities, motivations, and the basics of their story. Were they who they said they were? Did they have access to what they claimed?

This process relied on my street smarts, people skills, and assessment abilities. I was successful, because I ran operations like a business — with results required.

Vetting candidates for political office makes vetting espionage agents, or dot-com engineers, look like child’s play. The damage a liar or enemy infiltrator can do to our country is potentially astronomical.

The stakes for vetting a candidate for president of the United States make any other kind of vetting work seem silly. If a liar, or faker, or cheat was to make it into the White House our constitutional system could be at risk.

In my experience, a valid candidate, with nothing to hide, is eager to help in the vetting process. From providing full details of his/her personal and professional background, to revealing deep personal issues, a valid candidate works with those doing the vetting.

In the 2008 presidential election, candidates were vetted by the press in varying degrees. The media examined, analyzed, and publicly evaluated them. They explored in detail John McCain’s personal wealth, marriage, place of birth, mental stability, and other important issues. McCain cooperated, provided documents, and answered questions.

On the other hand, Barack Obama’s background remains nearly a blank slate. His school records, from kindergarten to law school, remain hidden. The story of his financial support is hidden — his private elementary and high school in Hawaii, his international travel, his graduate and undergraduate tuition and living expenses, and more. And these are just the beginning of the Barack Obama vetting failure.

For a professional vetter, it is clear that one candidate in 2008 was concealing vital information, at best. The documents and stories floated to support the candidate’s claims only raise more suspicion.

Trump: Obama Spending Millions To Hide His Past

Mega-millionaire Donald Trump today said during an interview with FoxNewsInsider that Barack Obama is having trouble with, and spending millions to fight, the ongoing questions about his birth, his birth certificate and his eligibility to hold office – and the longer the issue goes on, the more he is convinced there are problems with the president's eligibility.

His newest comments on an issue he first raised in an ABC interview more than a week ago came today on the Fox News Channel.

"The fact is if you're not born in the United States, you cannot be president. He is having a hard time. He spent millions of dollars trying to get away from this issue. Millions of dollars in legal fees trying to get away from this issue. I brought it up just routinely. All of a sudden a lot of facts are emerging and I'm starting to wonder myself whether he was born in this country," Trump said.

He later demanded that Obama just release his birth certificate after being asked about the issue on the television program, "The View," where actress Whoopi Goldberg said the issue was nonsense.

"When you become president of the United States of America, you know that he's American," she proclaimed.

Notwithstanding her expert analysis, the U.S. Constitution requires that only those who are a "natural born Citizen" are eligible to be president of the United States.

Goldberg also said the questions about Obama remain because of racism, to which Trump responded today that suggestion is "insulting."

"What does that have to do with race?" he said. "The fact is, they asked John McCain for his birth certificate. ... They would ask me for my birth certificate ... and by the way it's sitting on the top of my desk."

"This guy either has a birth certificate or he doesn't," Trump said today. "I didn't think it was such a big deal, but I will tell you it's turning out to be a very big deal. Because people now are calling me from all over saying please don't give up on this issue.

"If you were not born in this country, you cannot be president," he said.

Obama: We Don’t Want To Deport Them; 'We Want Them To Succeed’

When questioned by an illegal alien student today who showed him a deportation letter, President Barack Obama said he did not want to deport illegal alien students like the one who questioned him, he wanted them to succeed.

The exchange came during a town hall event sponsored by the Spanish-language television network Univision at a Washington, D.C., school. An illegal alien student, who appeared via Skype, asked: “My question for the president is, why [is the government] saying that deportations have stopped or the detention of many students like me, why is it that we are still receiving deportation letters like this one?”

Obama answered, “We have redesigned our enforcement practices under the law to make sure that we’re focusing primarily on criminals, and so our deportation of criminals are up about 70 percent. Our deportation of non-criminals are down, and that’s because we want to focus our resources on those folks who are destructive to the community.

“And for a young person like that young woman that we just spoke to who’s going to school, doing all the right things, we want them to succeed," Obama said.

ATM Scam

Bandits in the Wild West might have carried six-shooters, but modern-day ATM bandits are carrying another kind of gun -- a glue gun.

They've started gluing down the "enter," cancel," and "clear" buttons on ATM keypads. They then watch for customers to swipe their cards and enter their pin numbers.

Once a customer realizes the keys are stuck, he or she usually goes into the bank to report the problem. This leaves the machine unattended and the crook free to run up and complete the transaction, since the pin number has already been entered.

How do they complete the transaction? This is where the "one little detail" comes in. You don't have to use the physical keys on ATMs -- the touchscreen can also be used to finish a transaction.

Some customers don't realize this detail (though others just become flustered when they see the buttons are stuck and don't think about it, or don't consider the danger of leaving the machine unattended), which can save your cash and your account information.

Remember -- use those touchscreens. And never leave an ATM unattended. You can always call the bank using your cell phone, and have an employee meet you at the machine.

RSC Update: Democrats AWOL On Spending

37 days have passed since House Republicans approved a bill to cut spending and fund the government for the rest of the year. The bill would cut about $4 out of every $1,000 in deficit spending, yet liberals have so far rejected even this modest first step. To top it all, Senate Democrats still have no credible plan of their own. With the current stopgap funding set to expire on April 8, it’s time for lawmakers to show some discipline and finish the budget that Democrats were supposed to write more than 6 months ago.

A recent report from the Joint Economic Committee found that when countries undertake spending-cut programs to reduce government budget deficits and stabilize the level of government debt, they were able boost economic growth and job creation. Cutting spending without raising taxes has historically helped the economy. The sooner we act, the better off American families and businesses will be.

Is Media Matters Breaking The Law?

Media Matters, the George Soros-backed legion of liberal agit-prop shock troops based in the nation's capital, has declared war on Fox News, and in the process quite possibly stepped across the line of legality.

David Brock, MM's founder, was quoted Saturday by Politico promising that his organization is mounting "guerrila warfare and sabotage" against Fox News, which he said "is not a news organization. It is the de facto leader of the GOP, and it is long past time that it is treated as such by the media, elected officials and the public.”

To that end, Brock told Politico that MM will “focus on [News Corp. CEO Rupert] Murdoch and trying to disrupt his commercial interests ..." Murdoch is the founder of Fox News and a media titan with newspaper, broadcast, Internet and other media countries around the world.

There is nothing in the Politico article to suggest that Brock, who was paid just under $300,000 in 2009, according to the group's most recently available tax return, plans to ask the IRS to change his organization's tax status as a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt educational foundation.

Being a C3 puts MM in the non-profit, non-commercial sector, and it also bars the organzation from participating in partisan political activity. This new, more aggressive stance, however, appears to run directly counter to the government's requirements for maintaining a C3 tax status.

Since Brock classifies Fox News as the "leader" of the Republican Party, by his own description he is involving his organization in a partisan battle. High-priced K Street lawyers can probably find a federal judge or a sympathetic IRS bureaucrat willing to either look the other way or accept some sort of MM rationale such as that it is merely providing educational information about a partisan group.

Medicare Rise Cancels Increase In SS Benefits

Millions of retired and disabled people in the United States had better brace for another year with no increase in Social Security payments.

The government is projecting a slight cost-of-living adjustment for Social Security benefits next year, the first increase since 2009. But for most beneficiaries, rising Medicare premiums threaten to wipe out any increase in payments, leaving them without a raise for a third straight year.

About 45 million people — 1 in 7 in the country — receive both Medicare and Social Security. By law, beneficiaries have their Medicare Part B premiums, which cover doctor visits, deducted from their Social Security payments each month.

When Medicare premiums rise more than Social Security payments, millions of people living on fixed incomes don't get an increase. On the other hand, most don't get reductions, either, because a hold-harmless provision prevents higher Part B premiums from reducing Social Security payments for most people.

Durbin Flubs Muslim-Discrimination Hearings

The number two Senate Democrat, Richard Durbin, has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday to highlight claims of anti-Muslim discrimination, but his primary Muslim witness has publicly excused a U.S. imam for revealing an FBI investigation to a Muslim suspected-terrorist.

Durbin’s bungled choice for lead witness is another in a series of Democratic flubs that have paired top Democrats with anti-democratic, terror-excusing Islamists in the United States. According to a report released today by the non-profit Investigative Project on Terrorism, Durbin has already added to the flubs this year by visiting a mosque in Bridgeview, Ill., and posing for a photo with two Islamists who were named as unindicted conspirators in an Islamist project to smuggle funds to the Hamas Muslim terror group.

According to the IPT’s report, Durbin’s meeting with the Hamas-linked Muslims took place at the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview, Ill. The mosque’s website shows a picture, dated March 1, of Durbin posing with nine suited men, and two women wearing dark-coveralls and tight white scarves. The men include the mosque’s director, Jamal Said, and the mosque’s imam, Kifah Mustapha, according to the IPT report.

Both men were declared to be unindicted conspirators in the 2008 Holy Land Fund trial, which resulted in guilty verdicts for five men who smuggled $12 million to Hamas. The fund’s two founders were both sentenced to 65 years in jail.

On March 25, 2011 at approximately 10:43 pm, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the area of Brown and Barclay Streets for the report of a fight in progress. Upon arrival the officers met with an adult male victim that indicated he had been assaulted by the below listed suspect. The victim advised that he had been inside of his residence and heard a disturbance at his front door. The victim continued that the suspect then broke the front window of his residence, then forced his way into the residence. A friend of the victim forced the suspect out of the residence, then the suspect threw a clay pot at the victim hitting him in the arm. The suspect then shattered the windshield of the victim’s vehicle. The officers located the suspect and took him into custody. The victim was not injured.

On March 26, 2011 at approximately 1:28 am, Officers of the Salisbury Police received a call to respond to the Elk’s Club on Catherine Street for the report of a fight inside of the business. Upon arrival the officers entered the business and disbanded the fight. The below listed suspect became disorderly inside of the business and refused to leave despite instruction to do so by the business management. Attempts to have the suspect leave were unsuccessful and the suspect was taken into custody by the officers. During the arrest the suspect assaulted the officers. There were no injuries and the Salisbury Police received assistance in this incident from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department.

Narrative: On 18 March 2011, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office assigned to the Sex Offender Unit began an investigation into the legitimacy of information provided by a sex offender, Jason Lee Ennis, as to his residence. All sex offenders that are required to register with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office are required under penalty of law to register their address and any changes during their registration periods. It was discovered that Ennis was not residing at his residence of record with the Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy obtained a warrant for the arrest of Ennis and he was taken into custody on 24 March 2011. Upon arrest, Ennis was transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Ennis was detained in the Detention Center by the Commissioner without bond.

Instead of pulling over for the deputy, the operator turned into the Centre of Salisbury in an apparent attempt to elude the deputy in mall traffic. The deputy followed in an attempt to catch the violator with emergency lights and siren activated. The operator got turned around and attempted to leave the mall, still overtly trying to elude the deputy, when the subject found himself trapped in congested mall traffic which forced him to stop, allowing the deputy to box him in with his patrol vehicle.

Upon making contact with the driver, Thomas Bradfield, the deputy discovered that Bradfield’s driver’s license was suspended which was apparently the reason why he tried to elude the deputy. Also, Bradfield had been recently arrested for driving while suspended back in February 2011 and was out on bond awaiting trial on that case.

The deputy placed Bradfield under arrest and transported him to the Central booking Unit where he was processed and brought in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Bradford was detained by the Commissioner in the Detention Center in lieu of $25,000.00 bond.

Suspects: Sherri Lynn Webster, 34, Laurel, DE

Narrative: On 23 February 2011, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into a theft that occurred at a rental home in Salisbury. During the investigation, the deputy learned that a recently evicted tenant had stolen the washer and dryer from the residence along with approximately 275 gallons of heating oil.

The investigating deputy obtained a warrant for the arrest of the tenant, Sherri Lynn Webster, and that warrant was served on 25 March 2011. Upon arrest, Webster was transported to the Central Booking Unit where she was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Webster was released by the Commissioner on Personal Recognizance.

Incident: Possession of Marijuana

Date of Incident: 25 March 2011

Location: S/B Rt. 13 at Ocean Gateway, Salisbury, MD

Suspects: Ryan D. Waltrip, 30, Chesapeake, VA

Narrative: On 25 March 2011 at 5:27 PM, Sheriff Mike Lewis stopped a Virginia registered Honda Civic for exceeding the speed limit. Upon approach to the vehicle, Sheriff Lewis observed that the driver, Ryan Waltrip, appeared overly nervous with having the Sheriff present at his door. Also while standing there; the Sheriff detected the odor of marijuana emanating from within Waltrip’s vehicle. During the encounter, Waltrip admitted to having both marijuana and a smoking pipe in his possession.

Waltrip was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner released Waltrip on Personal Recognizance.

Narrative: On 26 March 2011 at 2:25 AM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle stopped in the travel portion of the Rt. 50 Bypass in the area of the Jersey Road overpass. Upon the deputy’s arrival, he located a red pick-up truck in the travel lane whose operator was slumped over the steering wheel. The deputy observed that the engine was running, the headlights illuminated and the driver’s foot was on the brake pedal. After the deputy placed the vehicle into park and turned off the engine, the deputy managed to wake up the driver, identified as Phillip Era of Hurlock. The deputy detected an overwhelming odor of alcohol emanating from Era along with several empty beer cans. When Era exited his vehicle, he had problems walking and even standing without falling over. When the deputy requested for Era to conduct some field sobriety testing, Era declined, telling the deputy he had too much to drink.

The deputy placed Era under arrest for DUI and subsequently located a baggie in Era’s pants pocket that held what the deputy recognized as cocaine.

The deputy transported Era to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Era was released by the Commissioner on Personal Recognizance.

SHOREBIRDS MEDIA DAY SET FOR WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6

Coaches and Players will be Available from 2-3 p.m.

Salisbury, MD – The Delmarva Shorebirds, the class “A” affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, will hold “Media Day” on Wednesday, April 6 from 2-3 p.m. on the field at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.  Manager Ryan Minor and the rest of the coaching staff along with all the Shorebirds players will be available during the designated time period for interviews.  The Shorebirds will hold a light workout following “Media Day” that media members are welcome to stick around for. 

Media should arrive through the main entrance of Arthur W. Perdue Stadium and walk down towards the Shorebirds dugout on the third base side. 

Media outlets that requested season credentials will be able to pick up their credentials on Wednesday at Media Day.  Outlets that are looking to cover the exhibition game against Salisbury University on April 5, can pick up their credentials starting this Friday, April 1.  They will be available at the Shorebirds Box Office.    

A physical copy of the 2011 Shorebirds roster will also be made available at Media Day.

March 28-31 Registration Fair for Kindergarten/Prekindergarten

A Registration Fair to enroll students in kindergarten and prekindergarten for the 2011-12 school year will take place this week, March 28-31, in the lobby of the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. A flier is posted at http://www.wcboe.org/resources/documents/PreK_2011.pdf.

The Registration Fair is for families of children who will start prekindergarten or kindergarten next year, and children not in public kindergarten now who will be enrolled in the first grade for the 2011-2012 school year. Students in the grade 3-5 TAD (Thinking and Doing) Program from throughout Wicomico County Public Schools will visit Salisbury University either April 1 or 8 for hands-on experiments and study on genetics, the students’ focus of learning for the past few months. Students and their teachers will be at the Henson Science Building from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on each of those days to observe plants, animals and bacteria expressing the green fluorescent protein; participate in the isolation and preservation of their own DNA from cheek cells; conducting DNA gel electrophoresis loading and running; and touring the Henson Building’s second-floor environmental growth rooms and chambers and greenhouse.

The Secret Keeper Girl LIVE – The Pajama Party Tour will stop in Salisbury Friday, April 1 with an exciting show for tween girls (typically ages 8-12) and their mothers about modesty, peer, pressure, fashion and true beauty. The show is the creation of author Dannah Gresh, who wrote the Secret Keeper Girl book series. This national show, which will be hosted locally by Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene, will feature dramatized stories about meaningful friendships, fun fashion shows that demonstrate modesty, incredible balloon sculptures, mother/daughter conversation time and colorful confetti cannons. A few girls from the area have been pre-selected to serve as models for the tour’s hallmark, a seasonal tween fashion show featuring Gresh’s Truth or Bare Modesty Tests. Thirteen teams from Wicomico County Public Schools will compete in the Maryland Destination ImagiNation State Tournament on Saturday, April 2 at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in Catonsville. The event is open to spectators to watch the central challenge of all teams. You will see many clever solutions to this year’s challenges. Teams that finish on top at states can then earn the right to advance to represent the state of Maryland at Global Finals in May at the University of Tennessee. Destination ImagiNation (DI) is a student centered, technology friendly, international organization for kindergarten through college students. It teaches life skills and expands imaginations through team-based creative problem solving. Destination ImagiNation emphasizes creativity, teamwork and problem solving.
