What Would Ron Paul Own?

When looking for guidance in life people have been known to ask, "What would Jesus do?" After all, Jesus was an anarchist and very principled so it makes sense to look to someone like him after which to model their life.

Today, the closest thing to Jesus in American politics is Ron Paul. Paul is a rarity in politics because he has principles. You can boil down Paul's position on anything by asking, "is it constitutional?". He doesn't flip flop on issues because he sticks to his principles. Does he support the IRS and income tax? No, because it's unconstitutional. Does he support the Federal Reserve and the fiat dollar? No, because it's unconstitutional. And, the reason he believes in the constitution is because he believes it is the best document written to uphold freedom and liberty.

So, when Ron Paul recently released the contents of his investment portfolio ("The Ron Paul Portfolio") as part of his congressional filings we looked on with interest. Would his investments be as principled as the other facets of his life? Would he hold to his convictions about gold as money? In this case, it isn't "What would Jesus do?", it is, "What would Ron Paul own?"

  1. Jesus was not an anarchist. He paid taxes! His source of funding may have been unusual, but he recognized that civil laws had their place in society.

In Matthew 22, one account reads thus:

17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Cæsar, or not?

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 They say unto him, Cæsar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s

Also, in Matthew 17, an account of Jesus actually authorizing the payment of his taxes:

25 What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?

26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.

27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of amoney: that take, and give unto them for me and thee

  3. Tolstoy defines Christian Anarchy in his book 'The Kingdom of God is within You'. Great book by a great Christian Author. And nice article post SBY, i would've never seen this on MSM. Thanks for being truthful and fair with your Ron Paul coverage SBY!!!

Oh and in old Rome, caesar owned EVERYTHING, so when Jesus says give unto caesar what is caesars and God what is God's he's not saying blindly pay evil corporations all your money, he's saying opt out of the matrix and concentrate on loving each other instead of making gold in a non violent way.

  4. Joe:
    R. Paul is a flaming idiot -- how does he think the government would operate without taxes -- never been that way. Without income tax there would be mego sales or "value added" tax and much higher estate tax. Where does he think funding for the interstate highway system and defense come from?

Recall that we almost lost the war for independence from Britain because of a dysfunctional way to get the revenue needed for supplies and pay troops.

Unfortunately the GOP also-rans like this and other morons (Perry, Bachman, Gingrich, Kane) who spout nonsense to attract the T=party types will make it impossible for the only decent one, Romney, to beat Obama.

  5. Wow, 'flaming idiot'...Some folks like to go in debt to the chinese for trillions of dollars i guess. This country didn't have income tax until the so-called victory tax was placed on normal hard working poor people in the 40s.I think folks should spend more time learning history then trying to justify their %1 positions. RON PAUL 2012!!! The Lovelution is among us!
