Maryland Lawmakers May Consider Gas Tax Hike In 2012

BALTIMORE (WJZ)– The threat of a 15 percent gas tax hike could soon be a reality. It’s news drivers don’t want to hear but the governor says the money’s got to come from somewhere.

Meghan McCorkell has more on the increase.

The gas tax hasn’t gone up in Maryland in nearly two decades. Now, Governor Martin O’Malley says it’s time for a change today if Maryland wants a better tomorrow.

Tax hikes must be on the table in 2012. That’s the word from Governor Martin O’Malley.

“Somehow, we have to find a way to make the kind of modern investments that a modern economy requires to create jobs,” he said.

  2. What is to be expected from a liberal tax & spend advocate, He is a facsimile our Chief federal boss Mr OBama.

  3. So the argument is that the tax should be raised because it hasn't been raised in nearly two decades.
My response is that Maryland government has become so irresponsible, wastefull, inefficiant and negligent, that they have to keep raising taxes to pay for it.
Maryland has long since pasted the law of deminishing returns.
Higher tax rate will just mean lesser tax revenues!
    Stupid libtards!

  4. Looks as though everyone will be going to Delaware for their gas.

  5. Typical democrat tax and spend. I tried to tell people before the last elections. If they would just look at the history of the democrats. They always raise taxes.
They have a tax and spend agenda and it has been that way for years.
Also look how much Obama has been spending. And talking about having skin in the game. Obama has no idea what people are going through while he takes a vacation that cost taxpayers 4 million dollars.
And this is about his twelth vacation this year. Not to mention bringing all those celebrities to dinner parties at the White House. And chefs from all over the world. He loves spending our money and then has the gull to say its time to cut the spending. He ahould practice what he is preaching. He is so out of touch with the people of the U.S. it isn't even funny. And say what you will about Bush but he stopped playing golf because he thought it frivolous while our troops were fighting in the war. But that doesn't stop Obama from playing golf or shooting hoops or having parties or vacations. I cannot remember another President taking so many vacations. So how's that Hope and Change working for you now.

  9. plus an increase in flush tax..WE AREN"T MADE OF MONEY.

  10. let's see: our sales tax went up 20% Now talk of raising the flush tax (what are they doing with that money again?) and with high gas price lets slap another 15 cents on a gallon. I am told Exxon makes about 8cents profit on a gallon of gas and we are already paying about 44 cents tax on a gallon of gas. that's over 5 times what Exxon makes. Hey O'Malley raising taxes is not going to make a better tomorrow, it is chasing the wealthy out of this state. Now who are you going to tax. let not forget the increase in alcohol tax. I saw a chart where the money has been spent, not a dime on the eastern shore. Now I buy all my alcohol in DE.
