INDIAN RIVER INLET — The new Indian River Inlet bridge will open to traffic by the end of January, one month later than officials at the Delaware Department of Transportation planned.
In October, officials expected the bridge to open before the end of the year, but Jason Lang, community relations officer for DelDOT, said Hurricane Irene in late August and subsequent storms set back construction.
“The back-to-back storms that we had near the end of summer took a toll on the progress of the construction and are the main causes for the extra time needed,” he said.
