House Fights For Tax Relief And Certainty For Unemployed And Physicians

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives continued the fight to ensure full middle class tax relief for 160 million Americans, fair Medicare payments to physicians and the extension of unemployment insurance benefits to Americans still struggling to find good jobs. Yet Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid felt the issue was not important enough to warrant returning from his holiday vacation to appoint a conference committee to resolve differences between the House and Senate bills.

“While the Senate and the President are content to give Americans only $167 in tax relief, I believe in these tough economic times Americans deserve the $1,000 of tax relief supported by House Republicans,” said Rep. Andy Harris. “Now is not the time to play petty partisan games while 160 million Americans are on the hook for a tax increase because of the Senate’s desire not to return to Washington from its holiday vacation. I’m not going to Hawaii – I’m ready to do whatever it takes to make sure that we can ensure middle class tax relief and provide certainty to the unemployed and physicians who care for our seniors on Medicare. I encourage all Americans to join me in calling on Senator Reid to come back to Washington and work with the House now so that we can provide certainty to millions of Americans.”
