Are Officers Being Set Up For A Big Fall, Where's The FOP?

"Well Sgt. Smith ordered us to write a 95 (formal department memo) to him stating if we wrote anything on the blog site. We were also ordered not to discuss it….yeah right!"

In a letter to the editor published yesterday the statement above was made. Since there's NO CRIME for a Police Officer or ANY American to make a comment on a Blog or ANYWHERE else, by allegedly demanding that Officers make such an official statement is creating a false case.

Since they believe at least ONE of the Officers there made comments, if they believe even ONE of the Officers did not tell the truth in their official statement they can charge them with perjury.

IF the entire statement is true, the FOP should be protecting each and every Officer within the OCPD. They have absolutely NO RIGHT asking Officers to answer that question and any good lawyer would tell you so. Plead the 5th, ALL of you.

So let's say some Officers have already been intimidated into saying they DID make a comment, will they now be a target? Considering ALL of the comments were pretty damning against the OCPD, this could get REALLY bad. Imagine the lawsuits that could be filed against the Town of Ocean City! While they continue to lose one case after the other in Baltimore, those cases would be pennies on the dollar compared to what's being set up right now.

I would STRONGLY urge the Ocean City Council to set up that meeting with Campbell and get this thing over with.

  1. The FOP, collecting money from us, buying wide screen TV's, theatre seating, and pizza and beer for football night. Thats the routine...That's what they are about!

Understand when the town gave us collective bargaining the current FOP leaders were low ranking and being bullied and knocked around. Now they are on the executive board of the FOP and most are all supervisors and not about to rock any boat! Independently they are good guys, but collectively they are looking out for their own interests and personal career goals. Nobody wants to be the next FOP leader that does not get promoted despite being the best qualified. He is their now, an ex president, but stuck because he did fight and now is on the wrong list. The current group watched and learned from him, they won't support us but we all pay about 1k year to be members, and we have no choice in the matter

So let's see about 100k per year for pizza, beer, wide screen TV, and theater seating. Awesome! That's all I'll say for now, but we are all getting tired of standing by and watching them do nothing. Any of us could be in a similar position at anytime, I guess we are seeing the support we will get when or if we end up in a similar position! We are not stupid and we see what's happening from our FOP, we are also disappointed!

  4. Makes you wonder, police are highest paid govt workers in our town. Year round jobs for 5 months of work maybe we need to reduce force or increase seasonal staff while we lower full time spots. Most make over 100000 a year and they are not earning it we are not getting our money's worth

  8. My ? is the FOP president stated publicly that he intended to contact the DOJ to request an independent investigation. He stated that he would be calling to make that request on Monday the 19th. It's been nearly 10 days, did he call, what was the result? Does anybody know? I think he never made the call and just made the statement in order to quell public sentiment. If that's true he is part of the problem and is not interested in finding a solution. So I ask you, Ocean City Citizens whom you work for wish to know. Did you keep your word and make the call?

  9. The FOP, and the average cop lost ALL my trust years ago, when they PROMISED colective barganing was not about money, but benefits, and voice. Well, 5 years and a 87% increase in the police budget later, how's it working for you now public. FOP means one thing F*** Over Public! Just wait until the next contract "boys", lets see you cry all the way back to where you should be.

  10. Check the pay for a OC police officer, compare it to MSP, or Baltimore City where cops work year round, it will make you sick. And we still have to hear them cry

  11. If the council has the power to investigate, they should. Someone needs to find out the truth, whatever it is...someone in a position of authority is lying, whether it is leadership or rank and file. Get to the bottom of it and move on.

  12. I think people need to wait to see who puts their name on the next OC ballot. Things could change and the bloodbath may not be pretty.

  13. Anonymous 6:43, from what I understand the Mayor and council are sorta like the bumbling Sergeant on Hogan Heroes named Schwartz who always said "I hear nothing, I see nothing, I know nothing!" We all know that they just want everyone to shut up about this topic as they have done with many scandals over the past several decades so they can sweep it under the rug until the next scandal arises when they will want everyone to shut up about it----and so on and so on.

  14. This is against the Freedom of speak and humane rights so they can actually sue for that.

  15. Mac was a great President for a while, then started drinking the Chiefs kool aid, simple as that. This is very obvious but the lack of action.

  16. De-fund these people, it's obvious they are a waste of money and a threat to public safety.

  17. what lack of action? he said he was going to contact the department of justice.

  18. Do you blame them in this liberal state, there is no laws standing up for us. If the FOP leaders said ok guys stand behind me and I will go forward. The leader would take one step and then turn around and find that he is by himself. Unless everyone stands together nothing gets changed. With DiPino as Chief you know she will come after you for standing up to her.

@ 2:19 So, do you call the DOJ, you don't have to wait for the prez to do your work for you, I'm sure you know how to use the phone.

@4:54, you way off on the budget thing, Collective Bargaining didnt increase the amount of police, the Chief did that, that is what the major increase came from. 20 more cops will increase the budget. OC did need that though. So before you throw the mud, research the facts.

  19. Support your local police. They have a very dangerous job. They have to deal with the public 24/7. That would wear anyone down.

Sounds similar to Salisbury, where there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Power corrupts in relation to the amount of power one has. A little power = a little corruption. A lot of power = a lot of corruption.

We will always need the police as a buffer between us and the bad people who would do us harm.

But when the buffer becomes bad and ineffective, they become part of the problems.

Correct it while you can and before it becomes worse.

  20. FOP is a nice social club, but they are not adequate as a union/collective bargaining agent. As long as the officers are telling the truth and claim "whistleblower" status the OCPD higher ups would be foolish to investigate a freedom of speech issue through intimidation and retaliation. Get some good lawyers fellas, you're gonna be in for a bonanza of a lawsuit if this retaliation continues!
