Earlier today, the White House — along with the EPA and DOT — formally announced their proposal to improve fuel economy over the next decade and a half, with the goal of achieving fuel efficiencies equivalent to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025.

ReplyDelete54 MPG means very little cars....period!
It's on a S curve system. Essentially, it'll push manufacturers to make smaller, more fuel efficient cars to offset their production of less mpg's cars/trucks. It's not a one size fits all standard, it's the whole reason things like the Volt, EV Fiat 500, and Nissan Leaf are out. Essentially, you average out the mpg's. It's a big crock, and that's why all the major car companies jumped up and supported it.
ReplyDeleteSeems a few years back folks were screaming it would never happen. Now we have SUV's with gas mileage just as good as my sentra. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that we've had the technology since the mid seventies for 60 mpg with a top speed of 80mph in what was then a mid size car.Big oil squashed it in the public sector,and the government funded further r+d.Remember trolley cars? They were the most efficient means of mass transportation ever. A corporation formed by GM truck & bus,Exxon,& a tire manufacturer ( I think it was Firestone)bought the trolley companies,folded them and tore the tracks out of the roads.They wanted to sell busses,big tires and lots of fuel.This is a realistic and attainable goal.
