In a show of support for Penn State football coach Joe Paterno, upward of 200 students have gathered outside his State College home, chanting "Joe Pa-ter-no!" prior to the 84-year-old's return home from afternoon practice.
Paterno's exit as football coach is being planned by university officials, the New York Times reported today, amid a sex-crimes scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky. This after Spanier called for the cancellation of Paterno's weekly news conference just over an hour before its usual 12:30 p.m. start time.
Paterno was cleared of any wrongdoing last week by Attorney General Linda Kelly. Athletic director Tim Curley and vice president Gary Schultz, have stepped down from their posts as they defend themselves against perjury charges.

Paterno is guilty as hell. He should go to jail. He knew this monster was a predator and pedophile and did nothing. Sandusky RAPED little boys!! More than 20 victims!!!
ReplyDeletethat man is a piece of crap...as is anyone else at Penn State that has kept other victims from sexual abuse...he should not be allowed back on the football field...he needs to step down today...right now
ReplyDeletetheir young and foolish. if it was their kid that had been molested, how much support would they be giving him ?
ReplyDeletelegally he did nothing wrong, but morally, i'm not sure how he lives with himself. Likewise with the assistant who witnessed the act in the shower and yet did nothing but tell Joe Pa the day after. Every administrator at PSU who knew about this and yet didn't call the cops are all guilty. PSU will never recover from this, recruiting will suffer. All of this under Joe Pa's watch...Shame.
ReplyDelete12:27... you are an idiot.
ReplyDeleteNot an idiot 4:12. Would you stand by knowing a person on your staff was actively RAPING young boys? If you would just standby and do nothing then you are the idiot. Likewise for the janitor that witnessed one of the rapes. Would you just walk away from a scene like that? He should have pulled the monster off the kid and beat him to death. Nuff said.
ReplyDelete4:12, I don't think that 12:27 is the idiot here. First, I'm tired of reading "You're an idiot" on this forum whenever someone disagrees with the ideas of someone else. Second, what makes him an idiot? Saying that Paterno is "guilty as hell?" Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but that's the opinion of the writer. He's surely entitled to have an opinion without being called an idiot.
ReplyDeletePaterno should hide his face and endure the shame of his folly. It was his JOB to oversee the department and he is a royal FAILURE.
ReplyDeleteAgree with 7:11. What is wrong with exercising a little civility when writing on a blog? The only thing I can't fathom, though, is why the police were never notified by anyone who had any knowledge or suspicion of child molestation!
ReplyDeleteI get that this PSU scandal is horrific and I can't believe that this could go on in such a great "program", but wait this has been going on in catholic churches for decades! I just wish they exploited the church as much as a college!!! SERIOUSLY
ReplyDeleteI'm glad others are finally voicing their disapproval with the use of words like idiot.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone disagrees with someone else, explain why and offer your counter point. No need for name calling and other bs.
That crap is for high school and even then I think they could debate better than some on here.
