Mayor Ireton Wants To Expand Council From 5 To 7 Members

Is Mayor Ireton flat out nuts? Ireton has proposed expanding districts in Salisbury from 2 to 5 districts because of a slight increase in population over the past 10 years. It would seem, (to me anyway) that the Mayor is pouting because the majority of the council is his enemy, (so he thinks). Instead, what we have is a majority of council who are truly representing the people and not special interests/legislation.

Nevertheless, why is this man wasting his time on such matters. Folks, you have to understand a very important issue confronting any candidate in the near future. ALL candidates must provide a full financial disclosure to the public.

What this means is that you will see far less people running for office. Yes, this includes local municipalities. Right out of the gate you'll drop probably 70% of the candidates, if not more. Why would a quiet, smart businessperson file to run and disclose their complete financial history. Democrats love this plan because most of them, (not all) suck off the system they created and couldn't care less what's exposed. And as long as those, (majority) who also suck off the system will continue to support their free rides will continue to vote for these idiots.

So what would you get IF Ireton were to get his way. You'd get more council members like Shanie Shields who, (for the most part) are clueless, enjoy the paycheck and ALWAYS vote in favor of whatever the Mayor wants. What about the pork as well. You know, a park in their district soon before an election. Its a way to buy more votes and those members being able to go back to their people and say, look what I got for your community. So it's not just 2 additional paychecks above and beyond what is being spent now. It's about buying another vote.

Its all about special interests and taxpayers ultimately having NO CONTROL over what their legislators say or do. Just look at Congress. How's it working for you Folks? Jim Ireton was extremely close friends with Debbie Campbell, Tim Spies and Terry Cohen, we all know that. Because they disagree with Mayor Ireton, because the mayoral position has gone straight to the mans head, there's a division and crazy proposals like this one.

Ireton is following in O'Malley's footsteps, (or shadow) in the hopes of furthering his political career. Adding more council members, (especially in these difficult financial times) is just plain stupid. Then again, just what did the voters expect from Jim Ireton?

  1. He just needs to stick to filling the kids heads with BS - we're already too hold for it.
Does he think we can't see the forest for the trees? What a joke of a mayor he is.

  2. I thought it was hard to be as bad as Tilghman, but he takes the cake. What a total loser

  3. If most of the people who actually vote were confined to one (or two) districts, then the Salisbury "machine" could easily control most of the remaining ones!

  5. anonymous 10:32, Jonathan, stop being such a pussy and use your real name for once.

Nevertheless, YEAH, the chouice was between Gary Comegys and Jim Ireton. I'm sure you, (a guy totally dependent on HANDOUTS from disability and whatever else you can suck off our government would depend on people as mentioned. Tell everyone how you got your FREE and UPGRADED, (because of your weight) scooter. Do tell people how you can afford to wear, (GET THIS) $400.00 non prescription sunglasses.

That being said, who do you think I would have supported for Mayor if Terry Cohen or Debbie Campbell would have run. It wouldn't have been Jim Ireton, that's for sure.

  6. Joe, Just read the DT article on line, jumped to your site, and bam!
I was thinking the exact same thing.
I won't go so far to say that redistricting isn't necessary, but it's obvious, by the timing, what
Ireton's motivation is-power both now and after his only term is over.

  7. Ireton's power play is retaliation for the power play by the Camden Club.

They took the lid off now they've got to face the consequences.

  8. No 3:20. Ireton says he's been working on htis for months. I think that the timing is coincidental as it relates to the charter change, but it does show his inability to work with others and his hatred for Camden.
