NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - It's the big one that got taken away.
Local fishing boat owner Carlos Rafael was elated when one of his trawlers snared an 881-pound bluefin tuna earlier this month.
But the joy was short-lived. Federal fishery enforcement agents seized the fish when the crew returned to port Nov. 12.
Rafael had tuna permits but was told catching tuna with a net is illegal.

so typical of the government, they just want the cash they are going to get for the tuna, then tell the rightful owner to shut up or else they will fine him. next time the guy needs to keep a rod and reel on board.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe they are protecting a species that these guys have fished into historically low numbers. I guess you would have allowed everyone to kill all the stripers back in the 80's too.
