Indian River Inlet Bridge Traffic Pattern Shift Will Occur Wednesday, November 2

Dover -- The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces that beginning Wednesday evening, November 2, 2011, its contractor George & Lynch will be making a traffic pattern shift on Route 1, just north of the Indian River Inlet Bridge. The shift will be implemented to ensure continued road safety due to dune erosion adjacent to the northbound lanes.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, Route 1 will be closed in both directions approaching the Indian River Inlet Bridge. This closure will continue until noon on Thursday, November 3. Once completed, a single lane northbound and southbound will travel across the existing bridge.

DelDOT will be placing variable message boards on Route 1 approaching the bridge in both directions to alert motorists of the closure, as well as on Route 113 north of Route 24, Route 113 north of Route 20, Route 26, Route 1, and Fred Hudson Road at Route 1. Notifications will also be made to emergency response personnel.

Motorists are reminded that the current speed limit of 35 mph throughout the roadway approach and bridge work zones will remain in effect and is being enforced to protect the safety of workers and the traveling public.
