"Where did this bruise come from?" she would ask systematically. "Myrtle," a United Airlines shift control manager and devout Christian, made it a game, quizzing and recording her five little ones, drilling them to say, "I fell" or "I bumped into something."
unfortunately there will always be people who "go overboard" or extreme with everything from soup to nuts. the bible states "spare the rod; spoil the child". of course it's not good to spoil the child.
ReplyDeletethis has been debated forever and will continue to be debated until the end of time. my parents "spanked" us; used switches and threatened with the belt. WE DESERVED EVERYTHING WE GOT AND MORE.
we came from a loving, caring and nurturing family. we had everything we needed and more; yet we would be considered "lower than middle class". we didn't realize it because we had wonderful parents and lots of laughter and family fun along with the discipline. most parents and teachers "back in the day" did use corporal punishment. in fact, if you got it at school, you would also get it again at home.
did it make us weird, unproductive citizens? NO. we are living good lives and understand why they did what they did. it was needed and good for us. the end.....
