ReplyDeletePriority 4 is DOA.

ReplyDeleteThey also said they were closing the road down. I wasn't paying attention to if it was east or west that is being closed down.
east, I believe.
ReplyDeletePrayers for the victims and their families, praise to the rescue crews.
ReplyDeleteAll the mayor and the Daily Times whine about is Onley Bateman but here's a stretch of road from the bypass near the stadium out to Sixty Foot Road that takes life after life and not a word. Heck, I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting a kid running across Rt. 50 to get to Wi Middle! That's happened more than once.
Very sad for these young men and families.
East Bound--looks terrible. Prayers to their familes! It isn't at the intersection...Curious what caused it?!
ReplyDeleteThat intersection isn't in the city.
ReplyDeleteMy prayers go out to the family. This is so tragic.
ReplyDelete2:54, I know exactly what you mean. Not long ago I was on Rt 50 near Wi Middle and a group of 7-8 kids walked right out in the road. They looked at me and kept walking across. I had to slam on my brakes or I would have hit them. As I drove off I beeped my horn and they looked at me as if to say "How dare you honk your horn at us?!" It was very upsetting. I've heard from several people this happens all the time. They refuse to cross at the light. Its a wonder one of them has not been killed.

ReplyDeleteIn the past when that light backs up is when they all start to slam on brakes. I'm not sure where this one was but there are always accidents at that intersection. They also have a lot of accidents at the Friendship road and Sixty foot road intersections. I know at night it is hard to judge the speed of a vehicle on some of the intersections but not sure about in the daytime.

Many pedestrians think they have the right of way. They are wrong. They only have the right of way in a cross walk. The old saying goes, you can be right,,,,,, Dead right.
The pedestrian right of way laws are so antiqued. They were okay 40 yrs ago when there weren't so many cars on the roads.

ReplyDeleteSCREW Law! This is about life and survival. Life should be protected at all costs even if you have to put your foot on the brake pedal. Yeah, you may not like someone appearing cocky for walking in front of your luxury death machine. Chill out and let these people live in the hope that they will eventually think the same way and not be behind the wheel when you are making a crossing with your walker some years from now.
go read the laws Harvey. Antiquated is an understatement. One thing that needs to change is if there is a crosswalk with a traffic control device in place, no other crosswalks should be within 300 ft of that one. Other states have adopted this law I believe. It shouldn't be a problem for anyone to walk an additional 300 ft to be safe.
ReplyDeleteHarvey I have no doubt that anyone would brake is someone ran out in front of them. However there comes a time when these kids are going to screw up and run out in front of someone and that someone won't be able to stop. I think it is THEM that needs to be aware they are walking/running out in front of a death machine. The cars driving down the road are not breaking the law. The kids running out in front of them are.
ReplyDeleteWhat does crosswalks/foot traffic at WiHi/Rt. 50 have to do with this tragedy? I think if you want to be productive and have your voice heard about it, there should be a new post/open forum...not built upon this tragic post that has nothing to do with either. IMO. How about prayers for the family and a little more compassion for those who have been affected by this. There's a place and time for these ridiculous comments.
