Worcester County Question

Mr Albero

I am getting "plugged in" to the county government here in Worcester. I am a parent of a Snow High School child and have been following the commsioners in their decsion making process.

Regardless of the side of the issue, my biggest concern is with the lack of accountability to the public they have. With a little bit of google searching it is apparent that wanting to silence public complaints is a common theme.

My question to you is, do you know of or have a point of contact for a citizens group in Worcester that shares my concern?

LET THE COMMENTS FLY.

  1. The Commissioners face election every four years, the same as just about every other elected officials in Maryland. What kind of special accountability do you want?

  2. It's all about who you are in Snow Hill. We are still dealing with the good ole boys network with the Worcester County Commissioners. Good luck fighting these guys. Talk to the people in Newark who hired an attorney when the good ole boys decided to allow Hard Wire to set off explosives in a residential area. It's costing a lot of money for tax paying citizens to secure their rights. I won't vote for any incumbents in the next election - let's clean house. Maybe you should run.

  3. The best thing you can do is pressure the commissioners into televising their meetings for all to see. They have the equipment available just need the push from they people to get it turned on. What are they hiding from? Tell them if they don't televise they will not be re-elected and it will get done than! Hey it works just fine for Ocean City why can't they step up to the plate and let the public watch what we pay them for?

  5. As 2:59 stated above-what type of accountability are you looking for?

As far as the commissioner meetings the agenda is posted on line as well as the minutes when they become available.
It would help if you would state the issues in which you feel the public complaints were silenced, otherwise your post lacks credibility.

  6. My advise is to contact someone with the group called The Concerned Citizens of Worcester County. Snow Hill resident -Reginald Hancock used to head-up the group. It was a grassroots organization that was suppose to keep watch on the Worcester County politics. I went to one of their meetings a few years ago that was held at the Snow Hill library.

In Ocean City - Joe Coleman was the individual that headed-up the sister organization to the concerned citizens. He lived in Caine Woods off 142nd Street.

Snow Hillians aren't quite as vocal as we are in Wicomico and Salisbury. Most of the politicos try and camouflage their activities - hoping to not raise the public ire.

Hope I was of some help.

  7. Thanks for the info 6:28. I'll look them up. Maybe I can answer a few of the remarks here. In Wor Co the citizen has no voice at the Wor Co Commissioners mtg. The only place the public can have a chance to speak directly with a commisioner is at an announced Public Hearing, and those are a very focused topic event. You can email them, to which I have received 2 emails and neither of which contained more than 10 words. You could call them at their home or their place of business but I believe they are due a private life. I could make posts on various web outlets hiding my true identity, but that is cowardly and of no value. I just think they should be accountable to the public they serve by allowing the public to ask questions of them. My vote should not be the only voice I am allowed to share.

And as far as credibilty, it is being anonymous that gives you no credibility...
