80 percent of seafood in U.S. is imported, some contains banned drugs
Filthy seafood infected with bacteria or tainted with drugs and antibiotics banned in the U.S. is finding its way onto the plates of Americans, according to state and federal officials, consumer advocates, academics and food safety experts.
The U.S. imported more than 17.6 million tons of seafood in the last decade, according to a News21 analysis of import data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
I never buy the disgusting bags of frozen shrimp in the grocery store or other seafood that is not from the USA. The foreign shrimp is really slimy and mushy. I always suspected poor sanitary conditions in the other countries...now it is confirmed. Seafood from China and Indonesia is garbage.

ReplyDeleteNot only the shrimp in the bags but also in the case at the seafood counter in grocery stores because all they do is dump the shrimp from the bags in there.
10:16 Yes you are right they do dump the frozen shrimp in the case at the seafood counter. When I see all of the labels of what country the fish/shellfish came from it makes me sick. Yuck!
