Monica Lewinsky's Life Lessons

Five Things to Teach Your Daughters

The story of Monica Lewinsky's life-to-date provides yet another reason to teach your daughters that reputations are hard to change. I am talking about both good and less than good reputations. Although, I do feel empathy for Monica, she was a young woman starstruck by a powerful man, her story is yet another compelling reminder of the power of reputations.

Monica appeared to be a young woman with a lot of potential for living a good life. 17 years after her very public sexual connection with our then President Bill Clinton, she reportedly lives the life of a "near recluse." She is a single 38-year-old woman who appears to have been unable to find happiness in her social life or career. Sadly, she reports still feeling like "the punchline to a joke."

  2. I have always tried to teach my daughter that if there is one thing you CANNOT change it is a bad reputation. I may not be able to tell you who the valedictorian of my graduating class was, but I can tell you who the "loose" girls were. Monica is a prime example of this.

  3. I think this is a good article and will probably be totally lost on the people who need to take heed of the lesson.

  6. Monica has a pocketbook line and a book in which both has grossed over 2 million dollars. I don't see the pain.

  7. I recall a close female friend of Ms. Lewinsky's reporting that when she was preparing to leave to go to D.C. for her internship, Ms. Lewinsky commented (perhaps jokingly) that she was taking her kneepads with her. Sounds a little premeditated to me. Perhaps her reputation as a skank is well deserved?

  8. A daughter's number one role model is their mother. My daughter's now know not to take any crap from any man regardless of his wallet size or status quo unless he respects them and works for their affection. I can say they are very well grounded and probably a bit of black widows with anyone who disrepects them being taught well from actions. Some people think its extreme, but in this day and age, you have to be this way and not lower your standards or risk getting around a jerk that eyeballs your body parts, winks uncontrollably at you, and can't control his hands. I am so proud of them.
