Maryland Is One Of 10 Most Pro-Government Union States

As we head into the Labor Day weekend, a new rating is classifying Maryland as one of the 10 most pro-government union states in the country. And that’s not a good thing, according to the Big Labor vs. Taxpayers Index released Wednesday by the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a Washington think tank that supports free markets and opposes organized labor.

  2. Government unions are just using the laws in the state to rip off taxpayers at the point of a gun.
    It should be criminal!

  3. It's going to be that way as long as we let the unions, government workers, and the "work nots" control the elections.

  5. we must face the fact that we live in the "socialist republic of maryland".

we can change this but it will take LOTS of work and determination. not sure we have the stamina to do it; but it's sure worth a try....

wouldn't it be wonderful to turn this state and country around? wow....

  6. I am proud to be a member of a union and I am thankful for the benefits that union has secured me. I chose my career, in part, because of the benefits I was guaranteed. Eight years of college had to be completed for me to acquire the proper certificates to get and maintain my job. I earn my pension and my benefits everyday that I work. Instead of bashing the unions and screaming that those who have earned those benefits should have them taken away, you should be demanding that you are treated better by your employer. In the end you had the same opportunity as I did to join a union driven work force; you chose not to. I am glad that Maryland stands up for its workers. Stop trying to scare people with the implied misconception that unions are bleeding the states dry. Have the people who can pay into the system actually pay their fair share.

  8. 3:37, very happy for your experience with your union. unfortunatly many great companies have had to either relocate, reorganize or shut down. many of these companies were here in salisbury.

please take time to read the "history" of unions. where and when they were formed and what they have become over the years. once you seriously do a study; i don't think you will be too proud to belong to a union.

union's are, at the core, marxist/socialist/communist organizations. ion's ago they came into being to help workers with harsher than harsh working conditions and extremely poor wages. that time has; for the most part, long since past in the industrialized world. in the meantime union bosses want nothing more than to control, monopolize and cause trouble for the employers. these bosses don't want to lose their huge incomes, benefits and perks.

unions are less than 10% of our population. they thought for sure when this marxist/socialist president was sworn in, all would then go their way and they would grow rapidly and gain control of much more than they have now. obama meets with union bosses frequently at the whitehouse. isn't that just special?? no it's sickening. obama has just about destroyed this great nation. hopefully we still have time to turn it around.

for anyone who agrees with me on this; please don't forget to get involved in this election cycle. 2012 can't come soon enough.

just say NO to unions by saying NO to obama......

Nobody would understand since common sense has long departed.

They would require you to have a certificate verifying that you are trained in common sense.

Probably an 8 year college course. lol

  11. Our president and our governor are both pro-union and do not have any idea that "MERIT" is what made our country great! Not unions! I am happy to say on Labor Day that our unions are ruining one company after another as they only "do the minimum", only do "what is in their pin-head narrow job descriptions" so they can use 10 times the number of people to do a job and sky-rocket the prices of everything. They are an absolute waste and a complete draw on our society! Yes, previous poster, UNIONS SUCK!

  12. 8:20p.m., are you joking? the private sector work force can be schooled and trained to do what you do and anything else that needs to be done in any sector.

in todays culture; unions are NO LONGER NEEDED. they are a drag on our society and because of the outrageous union wages and benefits; we are paying exhorbitant prices for anything that has been taken over by the unions.

    good-bye obama - goodbye unions

That was a good response. Thank you. You saved me the trouble of writing one. And mine probably wouldn't have been so nice.
