CHRISTMAS --
Many people call them "speed traps," cops call them "Speed Enforcement Details." Regardless, they're designed to save lives, but this weekend, a woman on a motorcycle was killed while being pulled over.
The crash happened Saturday on State Road 520 near the 528. A big black pickup truck slammed into the back of a motorcycle. On board were Michael Hughes, 58, and passenger Margaret Pratt, 48.
"They were wearing helmets. They don't drink. They were out for a nice "Sunday cruise" and now Margie is gone," said the victim's friend, Nancie Risola.
Orange County Sheriff's Deputies were doing speed enforcement on the street. They clocked the motorcycle going 22 miles an hour over the speed limit.

Sounds to me like they needed to obey the speed limit
ReplyDeleteIf they hadn't been speeding, they woulnd't have been pulled over in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThe speeding is what started the accident scenario.
They didn't get killed while speeding. They got killed while slowing down to stop for revenuer.
ReplyDeleteStupid kid not paying attention to his driving. Article never mentioned what the limit was so no way of telling how fast mc was going.
Speeding didn't kill her, inattentive driving killed her.
A great many motorcyclists drive way over the limit and considering the little vehicle they are mounted on, they should be going below the limit. They fly up hgwys like a race track.

Is this based on your limited experience?
FYI, motorcyclists, the experienced ones, are better drivers in general.
They have to be. Their life depends on it. If this kid had been paying attention, and not following too close, she would be alive right now.
They fly up hgwys like a race track.~~ Even if that were true, and I'm sure it isn't, that isn't what killed her or broke the guys back.
The speed limit could have been 35 for all we know. He would've been going a whole 57mph. WOW!
Most People drive like they watch the car races. Take Nascar off TV for good....

I've been saying that for years. They watch them little speedy cars go around in circles then get on the highway and think they are one of them.
Wouldn't hurt my feelings if nascar was banned. I've called that for years too.
Ain't gonna happen. Too much money involved. And in this country, money is god.
So be safe out there. You may be the only one doing so.
