On August 21, 2011, at approximately 11 a.m., Ocean City Police met with two persons who walked into the lobby of the Ocean City Public Safety Building, in reference to an armed robbery that had happened earlier that morning in the area of 4401 Coastal Highway.
The two victims told police that at approximately 4 a.m., they were sitting in a vehicle on the bayside of 44th Street, near the south side of the street with the windows rolled down. The victims stated that two unidentified assailants approached the vehicle with their shirts pulled over their head and began yelling and demanding money from the victims.
One of the assailants was in possession of a tire jack and struck the driver of the vehicle twice in the head. The driver did not give any possessions to the assailant. The passenger gave the second assailant his wallet containing a credit card and his driver’s license. The two assailants ran from the scene and got into a silver Honda Civic hatchback style vehicle, drove past the victims on 44th Street and fled southbound on Coastal Highway. The victim who was seated in the driver’s seat suffered an injury to his face, head and hand, which he used to block the tire jack that was used as a weapon by one of the suspects.
After receiving the initial report OCPD officers and members of the OCPD Forensic Services Unit responded to the scene and located evidence related to the crime. The evidence has been recovered and is being processed. Based on the information received from the victims, the suspects are both believed to be adult males, possibly Hispanic.
Ocean City Police are asking anyone with information about this robbery to contact the OCPD Criminal Investigation Division at 410-723-6604 or contact your local police agency. You do not have to leave your name.
I wouldn't mind knowing the rest of the story because there is obviously more to this. These two people were just sitting in a car on 44th street at 4am, got beat with a tire jack, and then didn't report it until 7 hours later.....hmmm...
