Dear Mr. Pollitt:
My understanding is the County owns the Humane Society Building. They charge only $1.00 per year for rent, and give tax payers monies of $200,000 , more or less , per year towards their operation.
It's also my understanding you will be having a meeting with the Humane Society soon. I am requesting, as a taxpayer of this County, the following be answered and made public for citizens to view regarding the Humane Society operations.
1. For what is our tax payers money being spent there?
2. What is the "Board" doing to enforce proper management and is that their
responsibility? If not , then who is responsible ?
3. Request- The "Boards" , Mr. Pollitts, and Councils e-mail address and phone
numbers be posted---- in the Humane Society ----in clear view---so the public will
know where to "voice" their comments or complaints.
Along with:
the persons names who are responsible for management.
5. Exactly what is the Humane Societys responsibility to the citizens & animals in
our County----and who enforces seeing that is done properly?
6. Who is responsible for hiring/firing employees at the Humane Society ?
I am hoping you will be answering all these questions & "The Board" will follow through with accountability & responsibility----if this is where it lies, which was my understanding.
For to long there have been many issues " swept by the way side "--- with no one showing accountability or responsibility as to any correction or improvements!! Time has long passed for this to be corrected !
I would like to know when these questions & suggestions above will be addressed?
Thank you for your time in this matter .
This post is more than likely a waste , nothing will be done , but I do like the effort.
ReplyDeleteYes, a waste. "It is what it is"
ReplyDeleteLets be real about this. The WCHS is an enitity that answers to nobody. They demostrated that in the recent past with Pollitt and County Council, yet they sre given tax payers money to keep them operating and disrespecting the tax payers and elected officers. Its damn time to do your jobs or quit politics.
ReplyDeleteHow many of these type of letters do you think Rick Pollitt has received and never responded to? I know at least 1 from myself.
ReplyDeleteWhy is everything "it is what it is"? If everything is wrong out there, why can't it be changed????
ReplyDeleteThe issue needs to be addressed and followed up timely, and response published on this website. Everyone knows that for years issues, complaints, and questions have been presented and the Humane Society swept them under the rug.

ReplyDeletethnks for posting this maybe something will become of it!they are all good questions, and deserve a straight non bias answer.pollit you promised a clear transparent form of government how abot lets seeing it
All it takes for evil to flourish is for people to do Nothing! It's time everyone pulled together & keep at ---- Mr Pollitt , The Board, County Council ---- if no answer there call in the Humane Society of the United States!
ReplyDelete"They" figure you----yes , you the taxpayer will soon forget---Keep at them---hold them accountable---it's our Money they are using to help support this Humane Society!
I know someone who use to work at shelter. The money, Humane Society recieves from county pays for animal control and housing the stray animals. Electric, vaccines, food,ect..... Board you pet for a week and see what it costs.
ReplyDelete4:49 Good reply !!! Let's hope Mr. Pollitt will answer the questions , as No One seems to know who is Accountable or Responsible for What!!! It's just like our Goverment , huh!
ReplyDeleteActually, someone has to be responsible, & it's the Board--- from what I have been told----Do you think they do anything? You're right-----They don't sooo it looks like Mr Pollitt is the main one to take the matter at hand & Fix It!
Email Mr. P at his website for Wicomico County. He posts his answers there also.
ReplyDelete8:22 PM You said, in part: "The money, Humane Society recieves from county pays for animal control..."
ReplyDeleteThe HS, by its own statements has admitted to doing only ONE HOUR of animal control per day. They pay a dollar per year in rent to the county for their facility, they receive hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in taxpayer money, because they are nonprofit, they pay no taxes (not the employees of course) and they assert they have no obligation to be responsive to county officials or even citizens of the county? They kill, literally hundreds of animals a year, put them in plastic garbage bags and throw them into a walk-in freezer until they burn them up in their on-site incinerator. When they cut back on staff, why cut out animal control? Why not cut some of the office staff? Animal control SHOULD be a MAJOR function of the HS!
You also said: "Board you pet for a week and see what it costs."
I believe you'd never find anyone who loves animals who would board anyone's pet in such a place as the HS. Not exactly the Hilton or the Ritz-Carlton!
6:07 Your reply is excellant & noteing that we now have Only One Animal Control Officer for this Entire County is totally rediculous & disasterous----for Both we Humans & the Animals Alike. This County should be able to do something about that!!! We should demand more protection with the money that's alotted them!
