Fire these ungratefulls and let some unemployed folks start getting their paychecks. The unemployed may actually appreciate having a job in this poor economy. Shame on you Verizon Employees!!!
Remember Dresser Wayne and Crown Cork and Seal? What happens when Verizon eliminates your jobs and forms their stuff out to the private sector. Go Union!!!!!! I guess their will be some cheap trucks and boats on the market soon after.
Everytime I pass by them they all stand out on the edge of road and wave. What gives? I do not understand their mentality. Passing motorist beeping their horns as the striking workers wave their signs.
It has nothing to do with Verizon downsizing but that these employees only pay a copay for their insurance unlike everyone else who pays monthly with copays. They don't think they should have to pay any insurance among other things. It's sick.
The employees really have no choice as to strike or not, it's up to the union. Unions are the problem, I really don't blame the employees for not wanting to lose benifits but I have a real problem with the unions that take the money and support all of the liberal democrats that run for office.
These people even look stupid. Fire them all, replace them, and move on. If they think in this economy they are negotiating from a position of power, they are as stupid as Obama. And, soon to be on the unemployment line!
The union way....horrible customer service....piss poor attitude.....and now on the verge of losing your jobs! When will workers wake up and see the light? Be greatful for having a decent paying job in this economy and tell your union bosses to stick it.
I'm not a Verizon employee and am anti union- they are in business to make money for themselves and can ruin a business. And I agree that the Verizon employees have had it pretty good until now. But the union came to them and told them to strike because Verizon is cutting their salary drastically, for some around 50%; increasing their productivity to an unreasonable amount that they believe will shortchange the customer; increasing by much what they will pay in healthcare; cutting their paid time off; etc. I've always thought Verizon had better customer service than Comcast who subcontracts their work out. But now Verizon may do the same. I feel empathy for the Verizon workers who have given many years of their life to Verizon, believing in the company.I don't know what the answer is but I know it's not to have more people laid off, unable to feed their family.
After repeated landline service issues, waiting two weeks each time for a service tech to tell me the problem was between the central office and the street, I finally asked to be disconnected this past Sunday. Although Verizon couldn't ever get my service problems resolved, it took less than two hours for them to shut me off. I will now get Internet service from Comcast. I concur with your other contributors: these jobs are going away.
Let me preface this by stating up front that I am not Pro-Union.
Last quarter, Verizon made 1.6 billion dollars in profits. The CEO of the company made $18 million in bonuses last year. They are making a ton of money and can afford to share. It's not like the company may go out of business or anything.
In my chronic DSL issues, I have learned that a lot of Verizon's profits are attributed to failing to maintain their copper lines. We have been paying for this infrastructure since WW II, and we continue to pay for it in those mysterious fees. So basically, we pay Verizon to build/maintain infrastructure, and they distribute the money as profits and bonuses.
I have also had to deal with numerous call centers for technical support. Verizon has a huge call center in the Philapenes (not union, of course, avg salary around $4k/year), where people are only smart enough to read the screen prompts. They can't think enough to look at service history on the account and see that out of dozens of calls, the resolution was never a problem inside my house. Plus, if you are don't kiss their butt constantly, they will drop your call and mark issues as resolved, forcing you to go through the whole mess again.
Because I need service calls to repair the copper lines on my street every 2 months, I've gotten to know two local, Verizon repair people pretty well. One of them got my support calls to now go direct to a US call center where the people are super nice, smart, and extremely efficient. They open up service tickets in about 5 minutes, vs a call of 1 hr burning cell phone minutes. Both local techs have always tried their best to be on time and provide great service. Unfortunately, they can't get Verizon to pay for a mile of new copper to fix all the phone problems on my street. All they can do is trace the latest failure and hope to find a better pair somewhere in the box for me to use for a while.
I really hope that the striking union employees do well in their disagreement with management. From what I see, they are the reason why Verizon functions at all.
I agree 8:50 a least 2 times a year our landline goes out what sucks is it is our business phone. Takes forever to get a tech here to fix it, if I had a dollar for everytime Verizon says I apoligize for the phone service not working I would be rich we have had this phone for 20 years and I have lost track how many times this has happened. They Suck!!!

ReplyDeleteit just pisses me off everytime i see them out there. be thankful you have a damn job! get back to work!
ReplyDeleteOr they can sit in the driveway and get 3 hots and a cot. lol
ReplyDeleteRemember Dresser Wayne and Crown Cork and Seal? What happens when Verizon eliminates your jobs and forms their stuff out to the private sector. Go Union!!!!!! I guess their will be some cheap trucks and boats on the market soon after.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe these people know the magnitude of their dilemna.
ReplyDeleteVerizon has lost so much market share - and it isn't funny.
The union better seriously assess what they are doing - and they better not wait to long.
Personally - I do not believe these employees are ever going back to work.

ReplyDeleteIf I were the company, I would not negotiate with anyone. The company holds all of the 'chips' and now its time to call their bluff.

ReplyDeletewhats funny is that the majority of you bozos commenting have no idea of what concessions the company is demanding. lol.

ReplyDeleteMaybe Verizon doesn't want them back.
ReplyDeleteWhen you drive by, flip them off!

ReplyDeleteSo I guess all you "don't tread on me" type conservatives just do whatever your boss says without standing up huh?
ReplyDeletePlain and simple just fire these people you can replace them with hard working people in a matter of minutes.
