Not sure, but, because we love our dogs, we err on the side of caution and feed them Blue Buffalo, give them NOTHING made in China (this is hard to do!) and buy everything we can "high-end."
11:17 is spot on...it's a dog, not a person, don't clothe em, feed em regular dog chow, and when they come to the end of their life span, don't pay for expensive surgeries to prolong their life for a few months.
The "higher end" food costs more. However, I currently feed my Great Dane, Blue Buffalo and it saves me in th elong run. Because she doesn't need to eat as much as she would otherwise. I have used Pro Plan with a different dog in the past and had great success as well.
When I feed my dogs cheap dog food, I pay for it extra by going to the vet, because it gives them diarrhea without fail. I feed top quality dog food with perfect dogs. I can switch to any high end brand and they do just fine. Like people, dogs have allergies too and for me, I would rather pay a few bucks more for better quality food. If money gets tight, I will just cut back on something else.
There are two things you should know first...there is high cost food, and there is high quality food. They are not one and the same. We feed a high quality food (Verus) that is made to human standards and no chemical preservatives. We feed much less food than you would if you were feeding a grocery store product as it is all digestable quality food, not road kill or dead, dying or diseased animals mixed with old resturant grease...yes this happens ALL THE TIME!!! I have my animals because I love them and they give me great joy. I want them to live a long and happy life. If it costs a couple extra dollars it is well worth it to me.
I make my dog food, just like they did before commercialized foods. Dogs digestive systems are not made to process grains, which is what the main ingredient/s in most commercialized foods. Check your food label, meat needs to be the main ingredient. Also, most commercial foods are preserved with BHA/BHT, which is known to cause cancer. Dyes are also harmful, but apeal to people like 11:17, IE Beneful.
My vet, just told me that I feed my dogs the McDonald's of dog food, they suggested some insanely expensive food instead. We settled on a happy medium, both in price and quality.
I would rather buy high-end quality dog food for my furry family member than give my money to the guy standing on the corner with a sign saying he will work for food. To 11:17am, yeah, I feed my dog nutritious food, but he doesn't wear clothes. He has better qualities than many humans I have met. Do us all a favor, don't get a dog. You clearly think you are "better" than dogs. Arrogance is not an attractive quality in a human; my dog does not think he is better than you, but guess what?-he is.
I've worked in an American dog food plant and have watched pallet boards, plastic wrap, and cardboard frozen to the meat go right up the auger and into the grinder. So, it's rich in fiber and saran wrap. I won't eat it, but it was a higher end dog food plant.

ReplyDeleteit cant hurt
ReplyDeletemost low end are primarily corn
neither dogs nor people digest corn very well
read the ingredients sometime and think
"would i eat that"
but of course my dogs favorite treat is a carrot
cats greatly benefit from a high protein low carb diet
ReplyDeleteand it tends to cost a little more but saves you vet expenses down the road
No, people who buy high end pet food, clothe their animals, and otherwise treat them as humans are idiots
