So The Mayor Doesn't Want To Believe There's A Problem On The Plaza, Eh?

No sooner did I tell the Mayor I'd start keeping tabs on what's going on down on the Plaza I ran across this gentleman drinking alcohol on one of the park benches. Mind you Folks, this guy stunk to high heaven as well.

If the Mayor ever had any conversations with Public Works he'd very quickly learn of all of the alcohol collected daily on the Plaza as well.

The homeless are urinating all over the place and while I'm paying some $7,000.00 a year in taxes, I'm NOT going to stand for it.

The Mayor may have blind eyes by claiming he hasn't seen anything, I will promise all of you this. I will be his eyes and ears, (since he can't seem to OPEN his) and will provide my findings right here on Salisbury News.

More to come...

  1. That is just one of many reasons why I refuse to invest in SBY or Wicomico county. Putting my dollars to work in other states. Many other investors are doing the same.

  2. With all due respect, the State has set the model to follow. In fact, so has the Feds.

Street people do not vote so there are no votes to lose.

I see OC street people every day and so do the Police Force there. There's no particular policy to help or reduce them. Something drew them to where they are so, if you don't want them, remove the incentive.

  4. downtown salisbury, even during the day, scares me. it reminds me of downtown washington dc....horrible. there is nothing about "american's small town" in much of salisbury anymore.

  7. Good for you Joe, keep posting the pictures, maybe then Jimbeau will "see" there are problems downtown. Anyway, he knows the problems exist but its always easier to look the other way.

  8. That is way too much to pay in taxes and I totally agree with you and all down town business owners or patrions. However, what did you do to help this man?

  9. anonymous 8:46, I'll tell you what I did for the guy, I called the Police.

This same guy pissed on the Feldman's building near the Draw Bridge and then went over and sat down on the bench and started drinking.

  10. me and another guy saw him today when he was peeing in feldmans doorway and sitting there drinking his beer. dont care who he is or what his deal is, there should be something called common courtesy. downtown is a great place with alot of nice people. all those who say downtown is dead must not be down there enough to see all that really goes on. salisbury just has to get its act together. i could go on forever but im not.

  11. So what's the solution, where are they to be? everybody needs to be somewhere. This does not change their situation, just their location. Here they are. Who is in charge of where these homeless are to be? I once had the opportunity to evict a homeless guy from a future building site, and he was very candid about ejoying his advantage of being homeless, as it negated many monthly bills, and only required him to work about 2 days a week painting. He was very happy to move out of the woods he was in, and a very nice person. Not my idea of an existence, but there are many out there facing the same consequence these days.

How would we remove the ocean?

  13. Joe, I live downtown and just got home (10:30 pm) and STILL saw this guy stumbling around down there. I waited in my car until he was down the plaza a ways.

  14. You got crackheads selling stolen goods and soliciting help with your groceries at the Save a Lot behind the Police Station. This does not surprise me. This ****** was trying to sell me this wooden box for $6.00 so he can get a pack of smokes. Yea crack cigarettes from your dealer.

  15. I see homeless people pissing all over the downtown area just about everyday. Also, they sit down at the bus stop drinking and panhandling all day. If you are walking down Main Street there homeless who are always asking for change or cigs. A bike cop may be downtown, but he doesn't see anything nor will he say anything to them. Go to the corner of the libaray and sit and watch what goes on with the homeless and under the bridge. You'd be amazed what you'd see. If I can see it the police should too? The Mayor is not only blind to this subject but just about everything that goes on in Salisbury. We really need change now!

  16. I'm just glad someone is making use of the plaza

  17. Public urination - illegal
Drinking alcohol in public - illegal
    Panhandling - illegal
Jay walking(like in front of the Farm Store on 13) - illegal

Our mayor needs to take a lesson from Giuliani when he was mayor of NYC. He started arresting everyone for these minor offenses and it made a huge difference in the city.

  18. 7:33 What sense I can make from your post seems to say you believe local government - the local population - can't do anything, it's up to the State & Fed Governments. That line of thinking is why we have the problems we have at every level. You're saying I won't take any responsibility, someone has to do it for me. Your some one is a higher up government - which is just a bigger mass of irresponsible people headed by non-thinking, egocentric, slick talkers who solve nothing. Look at the "leaders" - Salisbury Mayor, MD Governor, US President.

Lock this guy up for a couple weeks - 'till he's sober - then deliver him to one of the many privately supported homeless shelters. That would do us all and him a big favor.

  19. New York is not Salisbury. You may find if offensive but get real. Where else are homeless going to relieve themselves?

Surely no home or business is going to open their doors to a steady stream of homeless to use their bathroom.
