Salisbury News Is Rocking

With more than 16,000,000 Hits and 20,000,000 Page Views, Salisbury News continues to deliver more content than any other local news source each and every day.

In fact, today we surpassed 306,000 published comments! Yesterday we had more than 300 comments in one day and that's been pretty much standard all week.

Love us or hate us, we have the visitors and even more importantly we have people willing to voice their opinion on a daily basis, unlike the competition.

If you'd like to join our Family of Advertisers contact me at alberobutzo@wmconnect.com (410-430-5349) and we'll get you set up right away. Our ads are only $100.00 a month, no contracts, no strings. If we can't deliver, stop advertising whenever you like. We want to EARN your business and we'll do just that.

  1. So are you comparing yourself to Walmart, here to crush the Daily Times? I see no reason why you both cannot co-exist. Some folks like to have a newspaper in hand, myself included. Many older people don't have internet and don't want it. My 90 year old mother wouldn't go near this computer and she is adamant about having her daily paper. There is room for both of you. I don't get why you have to try to convince people you are the only way to get news. You're not.

  2. Gail, I'm very surprised that you didn't read the whole article, or maybe you didn't on purpose or your acting like it.

I compared the fact that WalMart usually crushes the competition. I went up against the local giant, (The Daily Times) and am not only surviving, I'm growing every day.

I absolutely agree with the fact that there is plenty of room for all of us. Unfortunately, I believe they will not survive and raising their rates and providing less content is the kiss of death and they know it. They will try to get everything they possibly can before they fold. Business 101.

Gail, in order to "convince" people that I'm the only way to get news is ridiculous. You have to be here to read what I have posted in the first place, or don't you get that. I'm not sending out mailers brainwashing people into coming here. People come here by word of mouth. I'm simply pointing out what I see as the obvious.

In closing, you'd be amazed at the volume of older people reading Salisbury News every day. For what its worth, there are more people 60 to 80 years old reading this Blog than there are 20 to 60.

I think YOU are the one trying to convince people other wise.

  3. Joe, I did read the whole article. I think I've read many articles you post where you are constantly belittling the Daily Times. It seems to me that you are trying to convince people how bad it is. If someone doesn't like it, they can figure that out on their own. My take on this is that because you are frequently engaged in self promotion by telling us how bad the paper is, that you considered yourself bigger than the paper, thus your reference to Walmart and the little guy. Sorry I didn't get it the way you intended. I AM here and I like to read my paper as well, thus I see what I believe you are doing. If I have incorrectly judged your motives, I apologize. I just haven't seen anything yet to convince me I'm wrong.
It's great you have older readers. Most of the ones I know don't even have a computer, much less visit your site.
Thanks for responding and thanks for posting.

  4. Gail, there's nothing better than a good healthy debate. So we'll agree to disagree.

What bothers me, (at times) is when some people just can't see the forest through the trees.

Sometimes, (no matter what I say) there are a select few that just will not accept what they're being told, as if what I'm saying is a lie. I have no need to lie about anything. There's no financial gain here for me. In fact, there's a huge financial loss but to me its well worth it.

We have gone up against the biggest on the shore and we have clearly proven we are committed and deliver 365 days a year.

You, (and all others) have the freedom of choice. You can come here if you like and you can visit the Daily Times, if you like. As I mentioned yesterday, there is absolutely room for both of us and I hope the DT's stays alive. However, (again) I doubt they will.

Just like many other industries have learned, there comes a time when their type of business is no longer needed, like the old land line telephones. There are many other examples. Print newspapers are quickly becoming a thing of the past, period.

If you are trying to suggest the Daily Times is giving you more for your money today, well, you'd get a BIG arguement from me there. The paper, (not that long ago) was only 25 cents per day and was 400% bigger each and every day. They had 200 employees and now they're down to around 10.

At that time, Salisbury News was delivering probably 20 articles a day and now we provide more than 100, (on average).

If you can't see the forest through the trees, well, what can I tell you. They're going down, period. ANYONE crazy enough to continue advertising in that paper is a fool.

    Have a great day.

  5. I would never suggest the paper is better. It sucks! But I still am willing to pay not only because I want a paper, but because I feel like I am helping, in a very small way, to support a local business. I also feel their days are numbered, but I will continue to support them if only for old times sake. It's not always about the money or even the product.

As far as your forest is concerned, I still ask, what is the point of constantly telling your readers how bad the DT is? Just that easy - what is your point? Intelligent people can figure out where to advertise without your subliminal comments. In my humble opinion, it makes you look just a tad insecure. I think that is not an adjective often applied to you. When you are the top dog, you don't need to pick on the other guys. It doesn't enhance your standing.

But I agree, that's "nuff said" and I thank you for responding. If you do respond again, I really would like an answer to my question about your purpose.

  6. Gail, do you have any clue just how many times the Daily Times has come after me in their newspaper, A LOT.

They have even gone so far as gone after my Wife.

I have every right, (on an opinionated Blog) to say my peace to my readers, most of which have now cancelled their subscription.

With all due respect, your reasoning for continuing to buy the paper is just plauin ridiculous. I guess we just think differently, that's all. You buy a paper admitting it sucks. I'm just glad your not spending my money.

The Daily Times has their agenda, I have mine.

  7. We definitely think differently - on most issues. I stated why I buy it and again, it has nothing to do with the money. Thank goodness I spend my own money and not anyone else's. That's one of the benefits of being old enough to enjoy what you have earned.
I'm glad to see you admit you have an agenda. I can respect that when you don't try to conceal it. If they have gone after you (or your family) in any personal, nonfactual way, why don't you sue them for defamation? It's been done before! It's been many, many years, but we oldtimers remember it well!
That's it; I'm done! Thanks for the discourse.
(And I think you mean piece, not peace. Sorry, pet peeve of mine! LOL.)

  8. Gail, so you know, I have thick enough skin just to let it go. If I didn't, I'd be suing WBOC as well.

Salisbury News was created because the DT's wouldn't expose the TRUTH. There were thousands of animals that had died at the Salisbury Zoo and while they touched slightly on it, they claimed, "Haven't you caused enough damage Joe" and refused to publish the whole truth.

You better believe there was an agenda. When I stated IF they wouldn't expose everything, I'd start up my own newspaper and compete. Their reply was, "We love competition". Well, how much are they loving me now.

There is no one out there that can claim there is ANY other competition, (besides the obvious WBOC & WMDT) with the Daily Times than Salisbury News.

I have been a one man operation for manmy years up against a giant with 200 employees. They are down to what, TEN? We ran for years with no advertisers, we have how many now? Keep in mind, all of these advertisers came to Salisbury News. We're not out knocking on doors trying to get advertisers.

So Gail, I'd say we've done not only a fantastic job delivering news, information and opinion to the Eastern Shore, we do it better than a company that charges $1.00 a day to read their paper.

I'll add, ALL of this has been at my own personal financial expense. Lets not forget my time as well. This Blog takes 16 to 18 hours a day at least 5 days a week and several hours a day on weekends.

Yeah, I'm going to pound my chest every so often because that's my right. You, (or anyone else) can agree or disagree. I'm not charging you $1.00 a day to read what I publish and there's always the big red "X" on the top right hand corner to stop visiting, with all due respect.

I do not do this for the money. I do this to give back to this community. If 6 or 7 years of daily dedication hasn't proven such, well, you'll never be a believer anyway.

Good chatting with you and have a great weekend.
