This is the latest installment in a series of reading guides on 2012 presidential candidates. We’ve also covered Texas Gov. Rick Perry [1] and Congressman Ron Paul [2].

The basics:
Though she certainly has a challenger [1] in Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann has held the title of Tea Party favorite [3] thus far in the presidential race, touting her opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage, support of "intelligent design [4]," and rejection of the scientific consensus that human activity is a leading cause of global warming [5].
A detailed profile [6] in The New Yorker tracks both her career steps and her deeply religious background. Bachmann's first job after law school was working for the IRS, an agency she once called "the most heartless organization that anyone knows of [7]." As both The New Yorker and the Minneapolis Star Tribune [8] note, she worked mostly on cases that were settled and rarely litigated. (The Star Tribune [8] reported two minor cases, The New Yorker one.) She recently said on a campaign stop that she went to work at the IRS "because the first rule of war is 'Know your enemy [9].' "
Many of her major career and life decisions have been made, she says, according to visions, prayer and directions by God. Bachmann said that God gave her and her husband, Marcus, a vision of marrying each other. She's said that God "called us to take foster children [10]," and went on to take in 23 in addition to the couple's five biological children. As she was running for Congress, Bachmann said that "God then called me to run for the United States Congress." And in May, she said in an interview with Iowa Public Television that she'd also "had that calling [11]" from God to run for president.

Bachman is full of crap as showed by the "know your enemy' line. A simple "I was fresh out of school and needed a job' would have sufficed. Any objective reader of this post can see that bachman is a crap candidate.
ReplyDeleteI'm still a Obama supporter, largely because the right chooses to run clowns like this instead of digging into the real talent.
Watch how Ms. "God called me to run" will magically come out with book deals, pundit gigs, speaking tours, and lobbying consultations immediately after losing this race.
ReplyDeleteAnother wackadoodle. Maybe she and the witch should run together!
ReplyDeleteI am extremely disappointed in the GOP Presidential Candidates. With the exception of Ron Paul, who isn't even seen as a "real candidate." I would vote for Ron Paul if he chose a decent VP, since he is fairly old. I am surely not voting for Obama, regardless.
ReplyDeleteYou would continue to support Obama if "the right" ran a cross between Washington, Lincoln, FDR and Kennedy! As long as Obama continues to fund your pet programs, pays your welfare payments on time, delivers your food stamps and extends your unemployment benefits 'til Hell freezes over you'll drink his Kool Aid. And 12:54 - I, too, admire much about Mr. Paul, but I realize that a vote for him is a vote for Obama. Don't kid yourself. If Mr. Paul runs against the Republican nominee, he will be another Ross Perot and will give the election to Obama.
ReplyDelete...and 8:58, why don't you tell us all who "the real talent" might be?
500pm,
ReplyDeleteI actually am fortunate enough to have a job so no welfare, food stamps, or unemployment for me. I do know that plenty of you so-called conservatives are the main ones sucking up the budget in medicade/medicare and plenty of you are soaking up the programs you name right now. And last I checked, Rep. weren't too adverse to taking those pet projects either. With that said, who knows if there is any "real talent" out there? You yahoos suck up any BS these guys throw your way without any thought to factcheck, which is why we have bozos like Bachman getting all the airtime.
