Maryland, Virginia Agents Confiscate 18,000 Packs Of Contraband Cigarettes

CAMBRIDGE Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot announced Friday that agents from his Field Enforcement Division confiscated more than 18,000 packs of contraband cigarettes and arrested nine people on charges of transporting contraband cigarettes and possession of contraband cigarettes in five separate cases this week.
"I'd like to commend my agents for their vigilance," Franchot said in a written statement. "Each day, they travel through the state to enforce the tax laws. We will continue to prosecute those who blatantly disregard Maryland's tobacco laws thus protecting law-abiding businesses and keeping our communities free of contraband.
