The 2010 Wicomico County election campaign was just hitting full stride a year ago. Now it’s worth recalling the scenario that followed.
Much of Rick Pollitt’s effort consisted of bragging about how much the county’s budget and government had been reduced in size and amount during his first term – thanks, of course to the tax revenue cap, not his leadership. Frankly, I don’t know why I voted for him, but I did.
When his Republican opponent, Joe Ollinger, suggested having a county police force, Rick’s criticism could have been written by the “T-Party” – he trashed Ollinger for proposing to grow government.
The mainstream media trumpeted Mr. Pollitt’s expenditure of taxpayer dollars -- $300,000 per acre for land at the old Salisbury Mall for Civic Center parking, $10,000 per acre for land for another county park, etc. – as major accomplishment. But there was very little reporting about the positions of the candidates, especially those of Mr. Pollitt.
Maybe I missed something, but I don’t recall that he ever discussed his plan to add a new “chief of staff” position in his office and to upgrade rather than terminate the “public information officer” position. But I do recall that I almost voted for Ollinger – and would have if I had known about Pollitt’s plan to increase his office staff.
What do you recall?
I heard Ireton was going to run?
ReplyDeletePollitt and Ireton have made us into the biggest laughingstock in the whole State of Maryland, not just the Eastern Shore.
ReplyDelete100 BEST COMMUNITIES THATS A JOKE, WHO FUDGED THOSE NUMBERS, THE COLLEGE...?
ReplyDeleteI recall that he was a liar then and he still is today.
ReplyDeleteWhat does the Public Information Officer do?? How often do you see an article by him?? Shows how much he does doesn't it!! Sharon Morris is a very nice person, does she have the qualifications to take over Ted Shea's position, don't think so!! Rick needs the extra help to help him run the county because he doesn't know how!! Neither Rick, Sharon, Jim, can do the budget which Ted used to do, your would think after five years they would have learned. My votes are for Joe Holloway & Stevie Prettyman, they know more about the county than either one of Ricks people. Let's put them back in charge!! Rick never shares his plans in full with the public so look out in the future Wicomico County!!
ReplyDeleteRick Pollitt just about caused the Town of Fryitland to go bankrupt(i mean belly up).he should resign ,come on County Council grow a set of coconuts.do something correct for once.that your job or are you all going to let Slick Rick ruin this county.as he laughs in your face for the millionth time.take his county car away(Grand Marquis).must be nice i see where my taxpaying $$$$$$$ are going. he should be impeached.

Baaaaaah Baaaaaah.
ReplyDeleteTo many chief's and not enough indians. Also, it seem the higher you go with education these days the dumber you get?
ReplyDelete7:31 It seemS hahaha
ReplyDeleteIt seemS the littlier your boyhood is, the more insecure you are.
Some of these comments are just plain mean and nasty. This is serious for our county and we should all be concerned. We don't need a big exec. and a Chief of Staff, too. The Exec. has no leadership skills and he needs to leave office now. Sorry I gave him my vote. I had higher hopes for him. How disappointed I am now.
