  2. OMG, my wife just bought some ground beer from WalMart the other day. I'm throwing it out. Don't want to take the risk--not worth it.

  3. I refused to buy any meat from walmart. If you look at the package it says it has % solution. I don't know what is in that solution but it makes the meat taste nasty.

  4. Best way to avoid meat reacalls? Support your local butcher. Ask what their animals are fed. If you can see their livestock grazing in fields, it's a good bet. I have gone from buying meat in the supermarket to the butcher shop. It's amazing how much better the taste is. The butcher shop I use is extremely reasonable pricewise. I just can not bring myself to purchase meat anywhere else.

  5. Can someone tell me factually WHY we only find out about meat recalls AFTER there is plenty of time to have shipped, delivered, unloaded, stocked and sold it? The inspections should be taking placing BEFORE the meat is shipped.

  7. I go to Hastings Butcher Shop in Laurel, on Horsey Church Rd. They are open Thurs and Fri 9-4 or 4:30 (I can't remember which) and Sat. 9-1. They are always packed on Saturday but it's worth the wait.

  9. The hamburger recalled was packaged in chubs. A chub is a thin plastic tube shaped package containing ground meat, such as sausage or hamburger, with ends fastened together with a metal clasp.

I never buy chubs so feel I have nothing to be concerned over. I also use a meat thermometer when cooking meat or a T Stick when cooking hamburger, as I feel this this lessens chance of an e-coli illness.

  10. It's probably from the heat wave. Most of the refrigerated transport units aren't eqipped for the high temperatures.

  11. USDA inspectors randomly check both packing warehouses and retail outlets for e coli on a regular basis, if the sample comes back positive, a recall is issued for any product that is in that lot, or if the retailer doesn't have proper documentation, they recall all of the products

  13. Rarely buy ground beef @ WalMart (thank God!) and when we do, we never buy anything but the very low fat stuff, 93/7, 94/6 (?). Guess we lucked out (?). Looks we won't be buying gr. beef there at all any more.
