Gov. O'Malley: Md. Needs To Be Open To New Taxes

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Gov. Martin O'Malley said Maryland must be open to new taxes to address the state's budget problems next year, and he cautioned Saturday that the state must be prepared for serious ripple effects from potentially deep budget cuts by the federal government.

O'Malley, who gave his annual speech to the summer conference of the Maryland Association of Counties in Ocean City, cited three primary shortfalls. The first is a state budget deficit of about $1 billion. He also said action is needed to maintain sewage treatment upgrades in the state. The governor also highlighted shortfalls in funding for transportation infrastructure.

"We will have to make more cuts and at the same time, to protect our children's future, we must be open to new revenues," the Democrat said, adding that "we're all in this together."

  4. NO farting O'Faily, I am not in this with you... you are in this with you... you out us here, so you get us out...

I don't see my tax dollars helping my area because you continue to take them and to fix your area of Maryland where you came from...

So in essence when you say you help Maryland, your lying... your only helping the Baltimore area... and quite frankly there UN help-able...
In fact they are coming to my area, crime and all...

If you would stop spending my money, then we wouldn't have to FIND NEW WAYS FOR REVENUE...

Why don't you come up off of yuor personal money you seem to have so much of? so we won't have to be taxed...

I got an idea, how about taxing dirt... since we all stand on it...

Oh wait what about air, because we all know the govt owns the air we breathe so lets tax that to...

Oh that's right lets tax land that doesn't even belong to you or anyone for that matter...

NO lets take someone who only makes 20k a year in which 40% go to taxes and rise the taxes and then blame them for the economy not working as it should be, because they aren't out buying needless crap like the govt is and keeps doing...

  5. A$$Hole always wants to make it about the children? Quit spending and you wont have to tax the Hell out of us? We can't give anymore. What does he want to understand, riots in the street? This winter is going to be very bad for folks! I hope he is willing to give till it hurts, cause some are just going to take what they want.

  7. How about taxing all the stores that are opened/run by people that are not Americans. Why should they get a tax break.

You have a point. They want to make it about the children. I thought that is why he allowed the slots to come to Maryland. Where is all that money going?

  9. I am one taxpayer that is absolutely not open for more taxes O'malley! You are already taxing us to death. You need to make cuts, adjust dept personnel, adjust salary's, etc... you get the picture. We've had enough! Of course, this could be the hidden agenda. Like the many other democrats, pressure for more until ciaos strikes.
