Debt Bill Passes Senate, Obama Signs It

President says after vote: 'This compromise requires that both parties work together on a larger plan'

Emergency legislation to allow the government to borrow more money passed the Senate Tuesday, with just hours to spare before the national debt was slated to hit its ceiling. The strong bipartisan vote was 74-26.

Obama said the bill is just the first step to ensuring the country lives within its means. From the Rose Garden, Obama said, "This compromise requires that both parties work together on a larger plan."

He added, "We'll need a balanced approach where everything is on the table."

  4. RePUNKlicans Won. No Tax increase for the rich.

The middle class, poor and the unemployed once again loss.

Now let's see if the rich, small/big businesses, corporations, banks,Grover Norquist and all the financially powerhouses in this country will help bring jobs to the American people. Or will they continue to outscource jobs overseas just like General Electric. (One of America's big businesses who avoids paying their share of taxes.)

The only good thing that came out of this plan was the raising of the debt ceiling.

  5. Raising the debt ceiling is a good thing 3:51?? Have you lost your mind? Now they will print $2.4 trillion new dollars which will make the dollar in your pocket worth less or worthless. For every trillion dollars in debt the US accumulates the average citizen is on the hook for $3,000. Since 50% of the citizens don't pay taxes, every "taxpayer" is on the hook for $6,000. So they just added $14,000 to your tab and you are happy about it? Liberalism is a mental disorder.

  6. Notice how far the stock market went down? The whole thing is a charade. Rather than a real attempt to cut spending they worked to fool people into thinking they're doing something. With this we've now got Russia calling the USofA a "parasite on the world economy". Way to go Barack and the Idiots.

  7. Freezing spending this year and converting from current baseline budgeting to zero baseline budgeting would balance the budget in 8 years. The problem is...it will take courage from our elected representatives to make it happen. Courage is in short supply in Washington at the moment.
